- Comment on The Switch 2 Rollout Was So Convoluted It Made Us Want A Steam Deck. 6 days ago:
The only thing “convoluted” about this whole announcement was pricing. The price of the console The price of the games The price of their online services and upgrades…
All of that is gut-wrenching as Nintendo claws at its dedicated fans wallets.
Otherwise the features and games look amazing, i understand why people are willing to pay those prices.
Fingers crossed we luck out with easy jailbreaks and emulators like we did for the Switch 1.

I have one as well that sits docked next to my playstation, its the ideal way to game, if you dont mind dealing with a bit of challenges to get some classics running.

Edit: preserve for their customers, not preserve the data for themselves, they can still choose to vault content forever, then what good is it to anyone?

It will definitely be something in between that incrementally moves the mark in their favor to an extent that people dont mind.
Linux truly is the only open frontier of gaming and software independence. The only reason to not be there already is mild inconvenience.

Theyre already doing it with all PS3 games, and you can only stream them.
This absolutely is not preservation of classic games, this is walling off and financially exploiting them as much as possible. Nintendo is doing the exact same thing.
Imagine if these companies started doing this with all new games? They wont right now because people would be outraged at not possessing their games(or at least their data).
Alas, we are all boiling frogs and 2013 Xbox is getting what they predicted… An all digital future where the consumer possesses nothing and pays more for it. This is exactly where Sony is headed… Dont let the insulting trickle feed of 2 classic titles per month convince anyone otherwise.

With a subscription most likely lol

Yes, and they still do not do nearly enough to preserve their games.

But not to preserve its games…

Well dont play The Last of Us part 1/2 or it will ruin gaming for you.
- Comment on Are modern Final Fantasy games bad? 5 weeks ago:
I understand your sentiment…
I havent played 16 either but i also see almost no appeal. Its clearly an action rpg at heart and that isnt what Final Fantasy was originally about.
The depth of story people expect in the modern is as high as it was when ff7 ot ff10 released, the only issue is that expectations for production value have gone through the roof.
If anything is holding square enix back from creating the next ff masterpiece, its their commitment to high quality visuals, and unfortunately that is what they have groomed their fans to expect. This is why the ff7 remake is being done over 3 games, to get that much story into the visual and gameplay depth people expect, it would probably dilute the experience to cram it into 1 5-year production. That and they make money off 3 games instead of 1 lol
What would salvage ff17 in the eyes of a classic ff fan would be to cut down production value and variations of gameplay. SE just needs to boil in good turn based combat, then focus on creating a beautifully unique setting and with deep, engaging lore. That is what was so powerful about ff7 and ff10 imo. A couple minigame distractions would be good, but the amount of effort that went into the minigames in ff7 rebirth is just ridiculous.
It would be nice to see a spinoff series that focused on this at least… We can dream.

Definitely. Immersive sim is a scant genre with some of my favorite games. We need more of them, so its good that the OGs have been getting so much love.
Thanks for sharing this, wishlisted.
The remake of SS1 was so masterfully done i had hoped SS2 would get the same treatment… But this heavy remaster looks like itll do just fine. Thank god itll have controller support.

Absolutely try Prey from 2017, it is an immersive sim that is now looked at as a modern cult-classic. You wont be disappointed.

More loss of control over our data. Boycott Kindle’s and their store if you dont agree with this. Amazon is too big, they control too much.
- Comment on Shovel Knight artist says throwback games need 'retro authenticity' but can't coast on nostalgia alone: 'Part of the appeal of the NES era of game making was that everything was a new idea' 1 month ago:
This comment is true for all games, regardless of graphics quality. If a game offers nothing new from a story/gameplay perspective, its graphics wont carry it very far.
