I had a look at voyager, and it’s UX is perfect for new users. It would be great to get the web to that point photon.lemmy.world seems quite good, maybe that should be default.

Yes it does depend on the front end.
But that’s the thing its not the default front end.
Most users will give up before discovering Photon.
The default experience should be very smooth and require little to no effort and thinking. Like what everyone has gotten used to

For the vast majority of users the UX just sucks for most of the fediverse
We need to push for or fund better UX
