I’m not interpreting anything. You’re being hostile.
Read the other comment chains. You’ll see all the answers you need, as well as how to have a conversation like an adult.

I think they still fear being perceived as ridiculous, but they’ve been very successful at making the bar really fucking high.

You can read the myriad of responses/chains this lead to rather than restarting the conversation as if all of this hasn’t been covered. Have a good rest of your weekend

Jesus fucking Christ dude I can’t believe it’s taking you this long to use search. Part of their marketing was bragging about how they did not use AI.

Hate the game all you want, I know I bounced off it after like three hours so that is totally valid. But you need to stop just making shit up/shooting from the hip.
I mean for fuck’s sake AI tools for game development didn’t even exist when production was going in this game. By the time those tools were even coming out the game was entering the final steps before release. Are you capable of using a calendar?
- Comment on Avowed review by Fully Ramblomatic 1 day ago:
No your fault is mostly the condescension/absurd AI comments.

Your entire argument is “bad writing”
- Comment on Kill your Feeds - Stop letting algorithms dictate how you think 1 day ago:
And usually by “algorithm” people mean a feed that is curated to you specifically based off all the data they’ve vacuumed up. Hot/controversial have a clear set of rules about upvote/downvotes over time and they apply exactly the same to everyone, so everyone sorting by hot for instance on a thread or community is seeing the exact same thing

Yeah someone else told me about that, looks like it was only rolled out a few weeks ago so it might defense it’s pretty new information lol Looks legit though! Absolutely has me reconsidering that concern now.
- Comment on Kill your Feeds - Stop letting algorithms dictate how you think 1 day ago:
The scrolling is only made to generate rage because you curated a feed with rage bait 🤷♂️ you can fix it in seconds if you want.
- Comment on Kill your Feeds - Stop letting algorithms dictate how you think 1 day ago:
Lemmy is not controlled by some sort of curated algorithm. You have full control over the sorting and what goes on your screen in a way that mainstream social media services do not allow.

I don’t understand why people have such a myopic view of games these days. They’re either Goad’s gift to gamers or absolute dog shit that people should be executed for.
Avowed received decent, not terrible reviews. But for you it’s basically Too Human it sounds like. You’re just too blinded by the need to slot games as a 10 or a 1 and can’t be bothered to consider nuance.
- Comment on Avowed review by Fully Ramblomatic 1 day ago:
christ dude are you gonna actually be specific at any point in this?

How much time have you put into it?

No worries! Sorry you went to all that effort just to see my edit after lol

What makes it slop?
The game was finished. It is not AI or even procgen content. It has a focused (if meh) story, graphics and mechanics are solid, it isn’t some sprawling mass open world with a billion fetch quests.
It’s hardly an inspiring game but it certainly a complete, focused peace that many people have enjoyed.
So again: what makes it slop?

I did not know about privacy pass - that’s a fantastic step. I need to better understand the protocol they’re using but if they truly cannot link my usage to my account and the account strictly exists for (functionally anonymous) payment then I honestly have no notes. That could be enough to assuage most of my concerns.
- Comment on Kagi search engine now has a Fediverse search option. 1 day ago:
So you won’t pay for a subscription to use a search engine.
When did I say that?
Do you prefer the model that other search engines use where they take the content of your searches and use it to advertise to you?
When did I remotely imply that? It’s a leading question and you know it. You should’ve asked “how do you think search interested to operate?”
I’ll even concede the second may have actually been unintentionally accusatory in its implication, but you literally started the comment saying I won’t pay for this service.
- Comment on No, Phil Spencer, Having AI Mock Up An Old Game Is Not The Same As Preserving It 1 day ago:
Ok, I’m pretty anti-Phil at this point. But this post seems to be doing a lot of…let’s call it “uncharitable” interpretation. And I get it, he doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. But let’s look at the quotes here:
“Today, countless classic games tied to aging hardware are no longer playable by most people,” Xbox says in its announcement post. “Thanks to this breakthrough, we are exploring the potential for Muse to take older back catalog games from our studios and optimize them for any device. We believe this could radically change how we preserve and experience classic games in the future and make them accessible to more players.”
“One of the things we care a lot about at Xbox is game preservation,” Phil Spencer says in a video accompanying the announcement. “And I think about an opportunity to have models learn about older games, games that were maybe tied to unique pieces of hardware where that engine on that hardware… Time will erode the amount of hardware that’s out there that can actually play a game.”
I initially read this as “AI can take older games that were relegated to older hardware and make them compatible on modern systems so players don’t need the hardware anymore.”
Does emulation solve this? Yeah usually. Does he have some cheap money grab planned? Totally possible and wouldn’t be surprising. But idk. I’m not quite sure I’m buying in to the axe grinding this article is engaging in.
That being said Microsoft would definitely be better to put their efforts towards supporting emulation and acquisition of ROMs. Completely agree with that sentiment. But I think they’re kind of bending the premise to shout about that (again valid and one I agree with) point here.

I mean at worst it’s fine. Very mid.

I didn’t say anything remotely like you’re accusing me of in your comment. I’m saying making an account is no small thing because you were trivializing it. At no point did I even mention spending money (because that doesn’t bother me).
I introduced nuance to your extremely reduced take and you’re trying to do it again with strawmen directed at me

Policies can change, they’re for profit, and I’ve heard leadership may be right wing/trumpy but I can’t find clear evidence of it so I want count that against them at this point.
Either way subscriptions are you giving away your identity essentially. They have you, your name, your credit card, your address, your associated searches, there is a lot to consider here more than just “look at what they say.”
TL;DR: A lot of for profit companies say a lot of things. I am not anti-Kagi but you’re being very reductionist and ignoring valid concerns.

Email verification isn’t the issue. Every platform uses that. I’m saying the above is simpler than joining the fediverse and “getting around.”

Ok Mr “speak my mind,” again your comment makes no sense. You can’t get karma without commenting and posting, both of which you can do day 1

Here’s how you get on Instagram or Reddit:
- Go to whatever App Store you prefer.
- download
- enter email, username, and password
- verification email
You’re done. Your voyager link is not the whole process.

And what I’m trying to say is that the big dogs don’t have quirks. They are intuitive to the point where 98% of people can figure them out in seconds the moment they look at them. They have spent billions of dollars over decades learning how to create as little friction as possible to get new users onto their platforms.

You and I know this but people at first glance generally do not. Then you try to explain to them how Federation works and their eyes gloss over

Reddit’s complexity was always vastly overstated. You can login and be posting in seconds in a way that you simply can’t with the fediverse
