- Comment on After 40 years of being free Microsoft has added a paywall to Notepad 2 weeks ago:
It should be noted that you can still use Notepad without a Microsoft account, and users can go as far as removing the Rewrite icon completely from Notepad. Despite the ability to still use the software without an account, Microsoft has received some criticism for implementing what is most definitely a paywall/advertisement for a built-in piece of Windows software.

can you please provide a URL or youtube video or anything with the claims you are describing? For the third time the code to generate the website is open source, if they have some other parts that are not open source which parts are you talking about ?
It’s not about being naive it’s about you evading the questions and making claims based on some theories heard on internet. I would rather prefer to see these claims, just so I can understand better why people are throwing garbage at a website that it’s simply providing a better user experience than X is doing at the moment.
I asked you about the code and you didn’t reply, just to name one, many companies like Meta have some code that is open source like React but like many other things are proprietary but they are indicated on their website if they are proprietary or not.

can you please be more specific ? What proprietary parts you found ? Did you read the code ? Again code is open source and anyone can read it and modify it, there is no proprietary, the license used is MIT not another weird license that limit the code from being used for other purposes like commercial stuff

what do you mean by incomplete subset ? The code is available on Github and can be compiled

I don’t think it will go down the same path as Twitter, since Bluesky is open source and available on Github other devs will have the possibility to improve it or create a better version of it but with the more users joining it might necessary to monetize it to better cover the costs. I would love to see everyone switching to the Fediverse but it’s not very intuitive for the average end user with the instances and the fact that you need to target a user and an instance to follow it
- Comment on Lemmy wouldn't really takeoff to replace Reddit until it's content is search indexable 5 months ago:
Twitter has been turned into a dumpster fire and people are still using it because of convenience, the same applies to Reddit.
I left Reddit not just because of the CEO but also because of the awful app they forced their users to use full of ads.

It’s not really about the name, people are just too lazy to switch app and they don’t care about the greedy Reddit’s CEO trying to make money in every possible way. Last thing I read about him was his idea to put some subreddits behind a paywall.
I was still using the Reddit app but with some tweaks installed on iOS to block ads, otherwise every app that it’s full of ads it’s just unusable.
