At no point did I say, or even hint that making more money means you are a better person, or worth more. By asking me if I think I am better than McDonald’s workers, you are saying that self worth is tied to wage. So yes you did say that.
How much someone is paid is based on how much money they generate, and how much responsibility/stress the job has. There aren’t many jobs with less responsibilities and stress as McDonalds workers. You aren’t up all night hoping that that buns don’t spoil overnight.
If you want to live in a fantasy world where how much someone is paid is based solely on how hard they work, then that’s fine. But we are talking about the real world here.
I really don’t understand the hostility, calling me an arrogant kid. Is this how you respond to everyone that had a different opinion than you?
You seem to have a very broken view of work and self worth. At no point in any of my responses have I alluded that making more money had anything to do with being superior, better, worth more. Yet you keep saying how superior I must feel. You must realize this is 100% your projection.

As someone who has also done both, flipping burgers should obviously be paid less than engineers lol it’s hilarious you’d think otherwise.
Nice job putting words in my mouth at the end. Imagine thinking the amount you are paid makes you better. Holy shit dude.

Last time I was in Arizona I saw signs for McDonald’s hiring starting at $20/hour. You think a software engineer should be making essentially the same wage as a McDonald’s worker?

Good software engineers should make a lot more than 48k

That’s not really how encryption works. If their chat bot can read/parse the message, then it has the keys, which means meta would have the keys. This doesn’t mean they absolutely are reading your messages, but it does seem to mean it would be possible.

Not sure why you think this, it’s generally trivial to add non-volatile storage to microcontrollers, and much more complicated to add external RAM.

I bought a full size a few years ago but returned it cause I didn’t think it was worth the price. I got a mini as a gift last year and it works great. Even has built in temperature and humidity sensors

I feel they could easily ban VPN companies (maybe?), which is what 99.9% of people that want to browse from a different location use.
This won’t affect companies at all as they would be using their own VPN.

Completely agree
- Comment on What webapps do you selfhost that aren't media/game servers? 3 months ago:
If you agree it’s a time saver, then you agree it makes workers more efficient. You now have a team of 5 doing the work of a team of 6. From a business perspective it’s idiotic to have more people than you need to, so someone would be let go from that team.
I personally don’t see any issue with this, as it’s been happening for the existence of humanity.
Tools are constantly improving that make us more efficient.
Most of people’s issue with AI is more an issue with greedy humans, and not the technology itself. Lord knows that new team of 5 is not getting the collective pay as the previous team of 6.

Interesting, this has not been my experience. Most people on here seem to treat AI as completely black and white, with zero shades of grey.

You’re a brave one admitting that on here. Don’t you know LLM’s are pure evil? You might as well be torturing children!
- Comment on That's all folks, Plex is starting to charge for sharing 3 months ago:
I don’t have a source but if you setup a VPN to your home there’s no way plex could know that you aren’t actually home. So as long as local streaming works, then streaming over VPN would work as well.
Similar thing with port forwarding on your router, except it’s much worse for security.
- Comment on That's all folks, Plex is starting to charge for sharing 3 months ago:
Mainly STUN and TURN servers to allow NAT traversal without having to configure port forwarding and leave your server exposed to the internet.
It’ll use those servers to setup a peer-to-peer connection which at that point you are streaming directly to clients.
If you want to setup a VPN for your users, or open/forward public ports to your server then you do not need to pay.
- Comment on That's all folks, Plex is starting to charge for sharing 3 months ago:
The same way you’d set up remote plex.
Plex will have some cost associated with remote streaming, so I don’t see any issue with them charging for that.
If people don’t want to pay then they should just set it up themselves, like they would have to do with jellyfin anyways.

I feel like what he’s trying to say it shouldn’t be the end of the world if a kid sees a sex scene in a movie, like it should be ok for them to know it exists. But the way he phrases it is questionable at best.
When I was a kid I was forced to leave the room when any intimate scenes were in a movie and I honestly do feel like it fucked with my perception of sex a bit. Like it’s this taboo thing that should be hidden away and never discussed.

- Comment on Plex is locking remote streaming behind a subscription in April 5 months ago:
Ok sure, they aren’t routing, just using P2P like I mentioned. It’s still not possible to access remotely without using plex services. This is what you are paying for. If you don’t want to pay for their auto-config remote streaming it’s easy enough to do it yourself.
- Comment on Plex is locking remote streaming behind a subscription in April 5 months ago:
Because he’s right. You can’t access your own server remotely without plex’s infrastructure (provided you don’t just set up that infrastructure yourself). You don’t need to open ports or anything. Your server reaches out to plex server, which creates an entry point to your network. Your stream is then either routed through their servers or possibly setup as P2P stream.
