- Comment on A TikTok alternative called Loops is coming for the fediverse | Users own their content, and Loops doesn’t sell or provide videos to third-party advertisers or train AI on them. It will be open source 3 weeks ago:
It’s just like Peertube. Cool concept in theory, but breaks down once you consider the less fun parts of it (storage volume).
Gonna be really hard to figure out how to make solid Fedi alternatives to image/video-based social media.
- Comment on Thoughts Around KBin's Current Status and the Importance of Community Migration Features 3 months ago:
Yeah I’ve pretty much accepted that kbin.social is all but gone at this point. I also owned a community there (/m/ai).
The signs were already there months in advance, but most of us stayed on the instance in hopes that Ernest would eventually take up one of the offers to help maintain the instance. Was fun while it lasted, and was the best alternative to Reddit for sure as a software. I don’t even know how Ernest kept up with development during the initial Reddit exodus lol.
Honestly, I’m not impressed with Lemmy so far and I don’t really vibe with mbin for personal reasons even though the software is great.
This whole kbin story has just pointed out a lot of flaws in the Fediverse as a whole for me. I still like the idea, but the execution needs improvement.
- Comment on Researcher finds a way to invisibly reverse Windows updates 3 months ago:
I literally cannot use Linux at the moment due to incompatible software, as much as I love Linux and use it on every other computer I own.
These posts about Windows and other mainstream platforms are helpful for some of us, I wish people on Lemmy would stop shooting them down just because they don’t like Windows/Micro$oft.
- Comment on Elon Musk claims he is training “the world’s most powerful AI by every metric” 3 months ago:
Eh this is the same guy who has promised real self-driving cars within 2 years…every 2 years. I’ll believe it when I see it.
(also why is OP being downvoted for posting the article, it’s news and from a reputable site)
