- Comment on There should be a semicolon punctuation for exclamation and question marks. 3 months ago:
Why does this not exist;? Something so damned simple!
You don't really need to link these clauses together, it sounds clunky. A question should probably be independent the vast majority of the time, and when it isn't it should come last.
Like this: Something so damned simple; why does it not exist? I think it sounds way better and is easier to read.
I think what you're proposing is unnecessary when you could just rewrite it to flow better. I can guarantee you that there's probably a better way to structure your sentence than simply inserting a new form of punctuation.
- Comment on what is with child names like Aiden, Braiden etc? 3 months ago:
Wow, and the kids are in Thin Blue Line shirts. What a weird family.

I don't know what to tell you other than what I already have, that the link does not work for me. There's a specification for a reason: interoperability. Fuck that though, it works for you!
- Comment on We really need a political video community. 3 months ago:
Can you understand that I am not you and I don't have your experience? The link goes to lemmy.world and I am on moist.catsweat.
It only works for you because you're using Jerboa. I'm using a browser.
- Comment on We really need a political video community. 3 months ago:
No, it said your link won't work well for people on other instances (because it links to your instance). Doing it properly means I can view it on my instance without having to switch.

Yeah, NBA League Pass doesn't work on Linux either, they partnered with Microsoft to implement their new DRM and made the decision not to support Linux. I assume this is also the case here.
The only way to get around it is to use a virtual machine, which is silly.

Haha, yes, you would probably have to make it at least partially outdoors.

I wonder if you can make your own or something. Mace is a plant, after all.
- Comment on How do Texas residents afford electricity? 4 months ago:
there is a cap at $5000/MwH
It's MWh (megawatt hours). That's only for wholesale electricity, which is available to retail electrical providers, not consumers. So your utility company can charge you whatever they want, but their price is capped. Funny how that works.
More info about the cap specifically available here. (PDF)
- Comment on sure you can have latkes :) 4 months ago:
Hm, I guess I have seen that, but never considered that it could be a high-grossing day. My wife's family would burn us in effigy if we tried to suggest leaving the house during the day so I've never really thought of it much.
If we don't come to Christmas it's as though we've killed the very concept of happiness. We'd never hear the end of it if they found out we went to a movie instead.
- Comment on sure you can have latkes :) 4 months ago:
They're open on Boxing Day, as stated in the post. It's only usually businesses run by people that don't celebrate Christmas that are open (like Chinese restaurants, and that one gas station run by a Pakistani family in my old rural town that saved my hide in 2012 by being open after I forgot to get gas on Christmas Eve).
- Comment on The interior of your house is hot, the exterior cool. What would the most efficient orientation be for a box fan? Pushing hot air out of a window or pulling cool air in through it? 4 months ago:
The most efficient way is to force cold air into the space while also forcing hot air out. The best way to do this is to have maximum airflow from one end of the house to the other, often by opening all of your windows and using multiple fans to direct the air. Shouldn't really matter if the fan is outside or inside the window; an airtight seal around the fan should get you good results either way.
- Comment on Child predators are exploiting kids on OnlyFans despite vows of safety 4 months ago:
I thought we were talking about the people making a living on OF, not the company itself. Isn't that the reason that its 30% deduction of profit from the creators on the platform is relevant to the conversation?
- Comment on Child predators are exploiting kids on OnlyFans despite vows of safety 4 months ago:
I guess that depends on the overhead. How much does it cost to maintain an Only Fans business?
Since equipment (camera, lighting, outfits, toys, etc.) is a fixed 1-time cost outside of consumables such as makeup, condoms, etc., I'd imagine that the profit margin is relatively high compared to most other types of business.
But that's just me making inferences, I have no authority or experience in these fields.
- Comment on Homelab Organization 4 months ago:
Yeah, I could never get NPM to work right on my system either. I use the NGINX Docker image and set up my certs manually.
If I were to do it all over again today, I would probably go with Caddy since it now has a bunch of that stuff built in with automatic HTTPS by default and the basic reverse proxy setup is literally 2 lines of code.
- Comment on Homelab Organization 4 months ago:
You could try Logseq, it's like Obsidian but open source. I use Obsidian for most notes and I also have a personal wiki built with Otterwiki.
I use NGINX for my reverse proxy, you could check out NGINX Proxy Manager which uses Certbot to automate the SSL certificates.
I've heard a lot of people also like Caddy and Traefik. Can't remember which is easier to use, maybe Caddy.

I liked the Palia beta and the Chinese New Year event. The world seems a bit dead sometimes though, and the quests can be boring. I haven't played in a while, I lost interest. I'll have to revisit it sometime.
- Comment on Netflix mulls introducing free ad-supported tier. The circle is complete 4 months ago:
I'm not streaming it, it's on my media server, so there are no ads. I don't pay for any services except Shudder because it's still cheap and niche.

Same, been watching Dead Like Me and Xena: Warrior Princess and it's pretty distracting when it happens.

Why not try running your own local instance of Nitter? No Nazis that way. I would if I used Twitter more.

FWIW, these are effective only when both are used on the same circuit. If you live in an older home, the chances of this being the case are higher.
My entire apartment, except for the washroom, is on the same circuit. It also means I can't run an air conditioner without tripping the breaker. :|
- Comment on What tool do you use to display your self-hosting infrastructure 4 months ago:
I use Cockpit to manage my system and containers and Dashy as a browser dashboard. It's similar to Heimdall but more minimal.
I also run Otterwiki and I'm planning on documenting my setup, but I haven't got around to it yet.
- Comment on Dust. 5 months ago:
It's not the ash, it's the tar. Smoke lingers in the air, cools, and condenses on surfaces including walls. It creates a fine film that sticks to everything. Sometimes it seems like it's even embedded into the paint but I'm no materials engineer.
Source: I grew up around chain smokers and my childhood best friend has 2 parents that constantly smoke indoors.
- Comment on How do I read trade paper back comic book collections, but in cohesive narrative? 6 months ago:
With Western comics, you sort of don't. You follow specific series with the characters you like, or you obsessively compile reading order lists from various wikis and comic tracking sites that each seem to add more and more issues until you've spent way too much time and money.
Reading manga is a lot more straightforward, in my experience. You just read it in order and then check if there are any sequels or spinoffs.
- Comment on if you had to choose one 6 months ago:
It's incredibly difficult to pick between 1 and 2, even before the meme. On the one hand, bears. On the other, bears.
