Average walking speed is 4km/h. So in four hours, you’d go 16km. If it takes you an hour to go 16km by car, then you’d literally be faster on a bike, because you can go past traffic without stopping

- Comment on How/why does Microsoft teams exist? 6 days ago:
The upside to Teams is that you can always claim it’s at fault for your fuckup. It has so many bugs that no one can ever say that something can’t go wrong because of teams.
- Fell asleep at your desk and didn’t see an important message or call? => "Dang, so sorry, Teams never sent me a notification!"
- Way too late to a scheduled meeting => "Omg hi, finally! Teams crashed every time I tried to enter the meeting!"
- Hungover and don’t want to turn on the camera => "I’m sorry, Teams starts stuttering every time I turn on the camera, so I’m keeping it off for now."
- Forgot to get back to someone? => "Huh but I wrote you like a week ago… weird, Teams must have swallowed the message"
- Don’t want to answer a tough question in a meeting? => “Sorry, your audio keeps cutting out for me. Just one moment, let me restart Teams.” pretend to struggle for 20mins and give up without answering the question

+1 for Purelymail! Cool thing is that the 10$/year is also for unlimited domains and subdomains, so I have split my mails into a bunch of different inboxes. Makes it a lot easier to filter out spam and figure out which services sell email addresses to advertisers

All the suggestions in this thread are good, but for anyone who doesn’t want to self-host or change providers entirely (because changing your email is an absolute pain in the ass):
At least get a different mail client. You don’t have to use the official Gmail App to access Gmail! I personally really like FairEmail, because it’s open source, has no unnecessary bells and whistles, and just works. It takes less than 5mins to download it and move Gmail over there completely, with no risk of losing any data or missing any mails.

Just get a lab job at like 23andMe or one of the countless other genome sequencing services. You only need a part of the spit people send in to run all the required tests - the rest can be used however you want to 🤷

Baggy pants would be one thing, but the kids around here are wearing these gigantic jeans that are somehow the perfect length to not crinkle up anywhere, making them look like they just have super thick cylindrical legs. Honestly, it’s pretty unique and I kinda like the look.
(I couldn’t even find a good image online of what I mean because I don’t know the word for it, but this is the closest approximation. Imagine the jeans were stiffer and straighter though, absolutely zero wrinkles)

Oh, good to know! I went from Win10 straight to Linux on my PC, and never needed it on my Win11 Work Computer, so I didn’t know about that.
Random sidenote, programming Paint yourself is an amazing beginner project! It’s easy to explain, gives quick visual feedback when you change parameters and is very open-ended so that you can be very creative in expanding on it. I’ve let like half a dozen interns do that and they were very excited about it every time haha
- Comment on ai generated logo 2 weeks ago:
It’s also not helped by the fact that Windows no longer comes with a decent Paint program. Paint3D is weird af, takes forever to open and I don’t know a single person who actually uses it.

Yeah, if everyone stopped eating at McDonald’s, supermarket beef wouldn’t actually get cheaper, but dog food would. There are a thousand more tricks and shortcuts like that in the animal industry - I’d really recommend watching Dominion, as it shows quite a few more of those
- Comment on Fake moo 2 weeks ago:
Most fast food burgers are made from depleted milk cows, so there’s actually little overlap with places that sell beef from dedicated meat cows

Sometimes different is even better! When I switched to Linux a few months back I didn’t anticipate just how much I would like the Gnome desktop environment. Now I sometimes even try flicking down my mouse to switch tabs on my Win11 work pc and get a pang of disappointment when it doesn’t work.

The starbucks in my area used to sell the mugs that they also used in-store. They were gigantic (like 700ml?), completely white ceramic with a very subtle logo and only cost 10€ each. They’re also extremely fishwasher proof because they were made to be washed like a dozen times a day. After like 6 or 7 years of use (we got them pre-covid), they still look like new and I regret only buying 2 of them at the time.
ImageIronically, I haven’t actually ever bought a drink at starbucks. I only bought the mugs because I saw them while picking up a Too Good To Go order there one time

Man Sertraline used to fuck me up pretty bad. Like crying every day and not doing anything else. My doctor still insisted on dosing me up to 150mg. Quitting it was awful too, I was nauseous for a week straight.

It’s the same exact laptop, the tests ran sequentially but were edited so that the video shows them in parallel. Since it’s the same hardware in each test and only the OS changes, it’s a perfectly fine setup for comparison.
