- Comment on [Horses] Phones Ruined Everything 3 hours ago:
Yeah it was better before smart phones. Pre 2010 I would say was the peak for tech in our world. Smart phones were coming out, but not widely adopted by everyone yet. Flip phones solved the problem of being able to contact people when you were out, but they did not have apps that sucked your soul away.
If we had never advanced past dumb phones then the world would be a better place.

When I was a kid I asked my dad this same question and I will never forget how frazzled he was by it. He told me some b.s. answer like, “Oh, I don’t know. You don’t really need to do that.”
He made me feel humiliated for asking. At a certain point I could not ignore it anymore though, so when I experimented and tried to figure it out myself, I did cut myself and there was blood everywhere. I was terrified and thought I was going to bleed out. Luckily it wasn’t really that bad and I managed it on my own, but I remember how scared I was.
After going through all that, I told myself that I would help my future son if he ever asked me a question like that. You are a better dad than mine was in this situation. It’s your job to help them with whatever they need, and it would have meant a lot to me back then if my dad had helped me the way you did. I can guarantee your son appreciated it and will remember how you looked out for him.

Spotify has been garbage for so long. I left when the Joe Rogan stuff got so bad and artists were demanding to have their music removed from Spotify in response.
You can buy music and maintain your own personal collection. It was not as hard as I thought it would be and the quality is so much higher. Artists get more of the money as well from you.

- Comment on Why do people care so much that their friend or family member’s partner is attractive and not just loving? 1 month ago:
Lots of people care only about status. If someone is better looking then that means to them that other people will see that they have won.
They would rather have someone they can show off at a party than a person who is actually compatible with them.

Do. Not. Update. Your. TV. Never connect it to the internet. Buy a streaming stick or use a computer to play what you want through HDMI. I don’t care if it is convienient,
- Comment on Good to exercise at home instead of gym? 3 months ago:
I think it depends on your preference. I worked out at the gym for many years before covid and after the pandemic I built a home gym with a power rack, barbell, adjustable dumbells, and cable machine. Biggest advantage of this is not having to share a rack with anyone. It was sometimes annoying to have to wait for equipment.
What I’ll say is that I really appreciated starting at the gym as I got to have access to every machine and workout equipment. This let me build a workout plan over years and get a good idea of what sort of equipment I would need to stay active. I also found it helpful to see what other people were doing at the gym. Some people clearly have no idea what they are doing, but seeing what other experienced people at the gym were doing gave me some great ideas of what to incorporate into my workouts.
I also did have a personal trainer for 6 months and I highly recommend this, especially when you are new to working out. The biggest value is from having someone experienced give you tips and tricks on how to improve your form and workout safely. Especially as you get stronger and lift heavier weights. It’s easy to lift something slightly wrong and really hurt yourself.
Overall, I always enjoyed my time at the gym and it gave me the knowledge to built a great home gym.

I loved my Google Home when I got it in 2017, but when I got into home automation, I realized it is dumb to have to tell a device to do things. Motion sensors basically replace the main thing Google Home does and a Bluetooth speaker is cheap to buy.
I never trusted that they weren’t listening to me all the time with the speakers and I never looked back after I donated them away.

Always a bad idea. Breakups happen for a reason and its always best to move on than hang on to a broken relationship.

There will be jobs, but I would argue that there will be significantly less lower level and middle management jobs, meaning it will be harder for lower education workers to find jobs and promotions will be few and far between.

So I checked the config for the external drive again and discovered when it was remounted it had added a, “1” to the end of the drive name. I went back into the .env and changed the library location to reflect this. Restarted docker and it is now connecting again. Obviously it is not ideal to be using a external HDD, but I wanted to test immich out for a while before investing into a bigger self hosting rig for all my services.
Ultimately problem solved though
- Comment on Issues with Immich 4 months ago:
Drive was just connected with USB to mini PC so it was also unplugged and I had to remount it to the PC. I looked in the .env file and the path still looked good. I had considered this was an issu3 too. I figured that restarting docker with the drive properly mounted would fix this though. Still getting, “connection was reset,” though

This console generation has been a thorough failure. I have a ps5 which is great to play my ps4 games, but I will only be investing in PC from here on out. Hopefully they release a more powerful steam deck soon that can play my ps3 and xbox360 reliability

They make thick pads for gyms that are designed for exercises where your knee is on the ground. I used them for a while
