- Comment on Substack won't let me in without verifying age, and VPN doesn't work; any ideas? 2 weeks ago:
I don’t have a solution yet but just wanted to add I have the same issue. And I want to get in to cancel my account - that’s when I realised I had no access. I tried VPN, private browsing. I came to the conclusion that my account is tagged as AU and so it gets blocked as soon as I log in which I need to do to cancel.
I tried their help bot which said it couldn’t help with that. It sent me to their help page which had no option for the problem…I sent a request anyway under a vaguely related topic but I have heard nothing and don’t expect to.
Will try TOR too but not hopeful :-/
The thing that really shits me is that it kept emailing me from subscribed newsletters so this is very much not about protecting anyone from any content. No way I trust them enough to give them my image and scan of passport - jeeezus! For now I have just unsubscribed from emails as I get them.
If I do find a solution I will let you know.

Research by Green Music Australia has found one in every three tents taken to a music festival is left behind.
Holy crap. That would never occur to me - to leave a tent behind. I can’t even

Hobson’s bay and Mooney valley (and probably other) libraries are extending their hours tomorrow to provide an air-conditioned spot for people. If anyone needs it.

Can I suggest to use gardening in the beginning? Just because this isnt a massively active instance and that might be a good starting place to suss out activity? I would be happy for there to be sub themes on there like food, bonsai, houseplants etc. it’s not a terribly active community right now so might be good.

I believe (I am connected to people at the conference) it was named as lack of confidence they were coming for a conference and not intending to stay beyond the visa. A number weren’t just attendees but speakers. It’s bananas

Oh no! Not even the six cylinder full Torrie UC? Not awesome. I have done a lot of miles in an old sandman and that was made for highways

I had not realised the subtleties of how preferences in senate votes work now. I vaguely remember reading about it when they brought it in but then promptly forgot . It’s so much less of a hassle now

I have been voting for 30 years and consider myself very aware of the system but this taught me heaps. Thanks!

Am seriously considering just deleting my news apps until it’s over. I am in a safe seat. I know how to get local info so I can decide who’s a climate/progressive independent and who’s a cooker. I don’t think I can handle hearing how more gas exploration and firing 40 thousand people is the way forward.

- Comment on One in five Australian renters are living without essential items and in poverty, peak body study finds 1 year ago:
Yeah there are a couple of metrics. The main two are the median salary of all adults which includes a lot of people not in the workforce (zero wage) and then the median salary for anyone “employed” (working any hours) which would be higher.
Dunno what the latest number are but at a guess mid 50s looks like the total median and 80ish is the median of job holders
(.median is used because mean is skewed by outliers like billionaires. Median means half of the people measured are below and half above)
