There was a piece a while ago of a guy that went to expired domains in Belgium, happened to buy an old domain from the police, and all of a sudden, started to have emails from the police with a mail server. Crazy how no one checked the domain.

That is not a good idea. Demanding ransom from the police never works out. Also, this gives quite a bad vibe to the dutch police as well (or this precinct in particular), since someone cannot verify where to send the files first.

You are not wrong that is not mandatory. However, my advice usually for people starting on self hosting that most often than not it is better to over spec a bit more always on HDD, and second the ram. But since prices for ram went to shit, over spec the HDD is still an option for some.

No kidding. At some point I was doing a project for Germans in a b2b company, and I was told “yeah you know, we also have to account that people will receive offers via fax”. I was stunned. Fax? In 2025?? And not the Llkind you deliver in the toilet??? Holy.

I think the food analogy is a good one here. I have debated personally a lot about this false sense of choice, when in reality you are bombarded with every psychological tactic to keep you hooked. Instagram in this sense is no different. If it lawsuit leads to somewhere, I do not know, however at some point the whole manipulative algorithms should be addressed (but by who and when are the biggest questions)

CPU overhead is quite well known and actually damages a lot the arc cards’ position on the budget class

Does anyone has an easy way to put windows 98 sounds on Linux? I would love to have it for one day (and probably revert after, just enough to deal with nostalgia)

- Comment on noyb win: Microsoft ordered to stop tracking school children 3 weeks ago:
I believe right now there are discussions about it on Europe to adopt more FOSS projects. The biggest problems I see happening here is who effectively maintains this, as well who gives the money (and incentives) to keep the projects alive. As of now the German government does have a program for the incentives (do not recall if they do the people’s part). Hopefully it becomes more wide and clear how this will be going forward.
Also, I do not think it would be such a small win. If anything is very significant. If you can change at that stage the tools used, eventually propagates further into the working force at some point.
- Comment on Is it wise getting a computer earlier than expected because of the hardware crisis? 5 weeks ago:
You can always try second hand market if in your region is somewhat healthy. I am not entirely sure what is your use case, but for work related and studies I would advise to get a lenovo thinkpad of some kind. Durable machines overral and can be get for decent prices. Other enterprise level laptops also work
- Comment on surely your hobby can't be that expensive 1 month ago:
Unfortunately yes. I used to play many years ago, loved (and still love) the game format. But after the release of modern masters at the price they did, I knew things would never get better. Wizards and Hasbro are in on the card evaluation market. They could, at ANY time, squash it. They decided to foster it

The reason I suspected temps was I changed very recently to a define r6 (got it second hand). And since the start I am a bit suspicious of how it performs thermally (terms of sound is actually quite OK).
I do have a fan on the drives but still one of the drives goes up to 40C still (even with front door open).
Also, when you talk about fsck, what could be good options for this to check the drive?
- Comment on [deleted] 2 months ago:
I am also inclining in this direction. I just ordered a new 8tb drive, and will proceed with smart long tests. When you tall about secure erase, are we talking using dd with /Dev/null?

I did know about zabbix before, and I actually did try to install it before using the proxmox helper scripts page. Somehow, by the end I for a blank page. Hence I made this post to see more alternatives.
I do know zabbix is super recognized in this area. I just did not install it successfuly on my previous attempt

I will check how that one works. I was not planning to have another machine to do dadhboarding, bit maybe there are ways to host this as a VM or lxc and make it that way
- Comment on How to keep track of system temps and hardware health indicators via dashboard with a proxmox installation? 3 months ago:
Those are good questions. I would prefer somewhere in the page of proxmox to have this info. If that is not feasible for any amount of reasons, second best option is to have a service to have a dashboard page. I did forget about graphana, but I can look into it

Can we agree air fryer is just a rebranding of convection oven? Also, it is useful (specifically for smaller kitchens)
