misleadingly doubted the existence of russian bot networks
don’t get me wrong, I know these exist. I am just expressing skepticism because people on the English speaking Internet will act like every reply they don’t like is a bot puppeteered by foreign intelligence.
It’s just more likely to be a normal person and any state actors are probably going to be focusing on the corporate-run social media spaces

I didn’t take offense! in fact I was making a joke of sorts, I understood your initial meaning.
I view my time spent talking politics on social media with people I don’t like as self-harm, I try to minimize it generally.
- Comment on Am I getting this right? The vibe of different lemmy instances 2 weeks ago:
the distinction I’d make for hexbear is that by user base it’s also one of the major LGBT instances
not sure what “ultra-tankie” means in this context, because ultras tend to be less into lenin
gotta agree that the instance feuding is pretty toxic though

you: “It’s impossible to have a serious conversation here, so I wish you luck!”
me: okay, I won’t bother responding
you: “woe is me, nobody responded, only downvotes”
idk what you expected tbh

Seems like a caricature rather than someone that’s actually around.
I really don’t see anyone on lemmy at least being like ‘no Putin is good actually.’
One example, I was reading a hexbear (allegedly tankie central) thread a while back where they were shitting on the CPRF for receiving praise from Putin for their support of the SMO. (ie saying that they were losers that lenin would have had shot, and that they’re not communist)
- Comment on The highlighted division and factions of Lemmy. 2 weeks ago:
Can you elaborate? is tankie just pejorative shorthand for ‘isn’t repeating the approved narrative’
- Comment on The highlighted division and factions of Lemmy. 2 weeks ago:
Oh I see, it is I who have to “welcome a different option”.
reread my comment, not what I said. Maybe if you’re less quick to call people tankies you might not get called a liberal in response.
I consider a workers dictatorship to be a lesser evil compared to the dictatorship of capital we live in currently.
I also does not know what that has to do with anarchism?
To put it simply, anarchists want to abolish hierarchy, communists want to abolish private property. They overlap when you want both. Liberals tend work to protect both of those things.
- Comment on The highlighted division and factions of Lemmy. 2 weeks ago:
you have been pretty anti-communist every time we’ve intracted, on top of calling me a tankie. not surprised you’re having trouble with people welcoming your different opinion
- Comment on The highlighted division and factions of Lemmy. 2 weeks ago:
It was the first lemmy account I set up and I haven’t bothered to change it! I like that it can access hexbear and blahaj and I haven’t run into any issues beyond the occasional sectarian post.
- Comment on The highlighted division and factions of Lemmy. 2 weeks ago:
I’m not a fan of the infighting either. It’s a very online kind of tribalism. I’m pretty active in anarchist organizing where I live and routinely have people from all sorts of tendencies showing up to help out without it devolving into a struggle session over factional infighting from a hundred years ago.
Just from the time I’ve spent here it seems like it’s specifically the people occupying the centrist liberal positions who are most invested in fostering a culture of leftist infighting

US propaganda doesn’t exist, idk what you’re talking about. It’s just russian botlords controlling everything

“I have to admit, I’m always so impressed by Soviet propaganda. You really know how to get people worked up,” the CIA agent says.
“Thank you,” the KGB agent says. “We do our best but truly, it’s nothing compared to American propaganda. Your people believe everything your state media tells them.”
The CIA agent drops his drink in shock and disgust. “Thank you friend, but you must be confused… There’s no propaganda in America.”
- Comment on Coordinated Pro-Russian Propaganda Network Targeting ActivityPub and ATProto Services 3 weeks ago:
realistically speaking our own governments are way more involved with manipulating our media than the ‘foreigners’ as people love to fearmonger about

I know a bunch of people IRL from in person organizing in the US who are ML/maoist and have positive opinions of China, but it’s generally the kind of critical support you see on hexbear. A lot of them are trans/NB and have grown up in the US propaganda bubble and reject it.
Also pretty sure both lemmy.ml and hexbear.net are blocked in china. It’s probably just because they block all foreign social media as a general practice though.

they’re unlikely to engage with most of the free-speaking world at this point, because it would just be a torrent of abuse and mockery and so what would even be gained by it.
side effects of never letting a good opportunity to red bait go to waste I guess

Not all of the countries problems can simply be attributed to ‘the enemy’ on the other side of the planet. The dysfunction I’m pointing out is home grown and enabled on both sides. The republicans are obviously worse, the democrats prevent anything better.
- Comment on Who should america be more concerned about MS-13 or Russia? 6 months ago:
Russia is affecting those things in the us though.
People being unhoused, going hungry and without healthcare is bipartisan consensus in the US and Russia has nothing to do with that.
