For some reason the bank won’t let me take out an 8 figure loan to start my international piracy business. I’ll be starting up a gofundme.

I wish they would merge in the pronoun support too, one of the better hexbear features imo.
- Comment on Day 1 Reddit Refugee 3 days ago:
They can call Obama a piece of shit as far as I’m concerned.
The issue is the application of a thinly veiled racist caricature though. Call Xi a dictator, piece of shit, whatever, but evidence it and don’t rely on racist tropes and I doubt you will catch a ban for it.
- Comment on Day 1 Reddit Refugee 3 days ago:
I’m aware of where the meme came from, personally I think it’s bad taste to be yapping about uguhurs in a thread about the Gaza genocide.
If people were gleefully calling Obama “Tigger” after that, and constantly doing that instead of having a real argument or something to say I think that would start resulting in bans for racism too.
- Comment on Day 1 Reddit Refugee 3 days ago:
the Winnie the Pooh comments are racist though, it’s not hard to have substantive critiques of China without constantly falling back on trying to equate the president with a yellow cartoon animal. We don’t have to get into it, but they almost always hand out temp bans for that. For example yours is already expired.
- Comment on Not federated Lemmy instances? 3 days ago:
I believe they forked from Lemmy before federation existed close to 4 years ago, added things like custom emojis and then only re-merged after federation was implemented then turned it on.

From my experience as an anarchist user who ended up volunteering to moderate in these spaces, most of the censorship happens when people are either being racist or aggro/sealioning. While users definitely tend to be more positive when it comes to China in places like hexbear than in more heavily pro-west spaces they are still critical of its a shortcomings.
An example here: >80 up voted post with one of the highest comments criticizing the poor standard of care for trans youth in China
Here’s a thread criticizing Russia for being a cringe misogynist capitalist oligarchy and lamenting that the progress for women’s rights and LGBT rights that happened under communism wasn’t preserved. Again it’s a positive orientation because they are opposed to the west but also one of deep disappointment in their failures on social issues.
To me at least this type of commentary is a valuable perspective and is also stuff which often gets filtered entirely under the more advertiser-friendly moderation styles.
At the end of the day I value being able to at least hear dissent, I’m surrounded by the mainstream narrative in my daily life already anyways.

You can totally have centrist extremists

So accusing left wingers of being right wing is okay as far as you’re concerned if it’s about an election
Pointing out that from a left wing perspective, Biden and the Democrats are doing bad things and their supporters are right wing: wrong, not descriptive, belongs in a tankie shit hole.

Being full of anticommunists who call anyone left of Biden a tankie makes you right wing in my eyes at least

I wouldn’t want anyone going down an extremist pipeline on either side of the political spectrum.
This isn’t a binary thing, there’s plenty of centrist extremists and echo chambers for them

I agree with you that this conflict needs a resolution, it’s possible lemmy.ml has done some things wrong, that’s why I support a two state soltion that guarantees lemmy.mls security.

I’m more of an anarchist and I’ve not had issues with hexbear or .ml, though I don’t block lemmygrad I’m not subbed to most of their communities mostly because sectarianism bothers me.

That’s literally what every trot org does, they sing Lenins praises, while continuing to bicker about factional infighting from close to a hundred years ago.
I have family members who were (forcibly) internally resettled in the USSR who hold less of a grudge against Stalin than some American trots I’ve encountered.
- Comment on Is it me or is everyone in hexbear insane? 3 months ago:
I know my local revolutionnary/communist party, despite being leninist, is fiercely anti-Stalin, for instance. The fixation on defending totalitarianism is frankly bizarre.
You sound like you’re taking about trotskyists, who have been the main ones keeping the old communist scarecrows alive on the left
I remember going to one of my local groups anti-fascism reading years back and it was mostly a bunch of white people rambling about how evil Stalin was.
By comparison the student maoists I’ve known have way more nuanced opinions on Stalin and actually do community and propaganda work rather than selling newspapers

NATO was virtually entirely a mutual defense pact vs Russia in their previous incarnation as the USSR.
This “defense pact” has invaded, bombed and destroyed many countries within my lifetime, it’s jus ta laughable statement.
Living in America it’s incredible to me how people I run into don’t even know the countries that their own government has invaded using its “defense pact”, or pay attention to people whose lives they’ve ruined, and thus can’t even understand why people see them as a threat.

I was trying to wrap my head around the guy complaining about the lack of civil disagreement, people bullying and demeaning while simultaneously posting a thread calling all the users on what’s one of the largest trans instances on lemmy “insane” in the title

Just quoting you:
How are you disputing the fact that OP is getting downvoted by hexbears right now?
Between 2 and n “hexbears” (understood to mean “humans afflicted with hexbear mind virus using other servers”) are behaving in some coordinated way. You were pretty clearly implying that it’s some conspiracy rather than simply other users disagreeing with you.
I took your assertion to its ridiculous conclusion because it’s a ridiculous thing to be complaining about in the first place, as in not a real problem.
- Comment on Is it me or is everyone in hexbear insane? 3 months ago:
Gaslighting? Disingenuous? You’re the one asserting that anyone down voting must be a hexbear alt, by virtue of the fact that nobody could possibly disagree unless they were already a hexbear user.
It’s just a bit circular and not disprovable anyways. Maybe the admins should just check the logs and ban everyone who’s down voted so you can rest easy. Wouldn’t want to have any authoritarians using lemmy.
- Comment on Is it me or is everyone in hexbear insane? 3 months ago:
Hexbear, famous for having down votes turned on. But yeah, you’re totally surrounded by secret hexbears all down voting you
- Comment on Is it me or is everyone in hexbear insane? 3 months ago:
Before I get accused of being a hexbear alt, I only added them after I saw that they were in common use due to hexbear posters showing up in my /all. We did actually start mandating pronoun tags for people participating in /c/transgender -despite the fact that some of the admins are resistant at the instance lecel- because it seems to work well in the trans spaces on hexbear for fostering a respectful environment.
