Sure is great that they patented the Nemesis system just to do nothing with it for the better part of a decade then shut down the studio that invented it. Brilliant use of talent and the US patent system there.

If we’re allowing Trilogy as one game then I’m going to step out a bit and go with AM2R. It’s extremely good and not “for a fan remake”, just straight up good.
If we’re talking single games made/published by Nintendo I’d go with Dread for 2D. I played through that 3-4 times back to back when it came out which was a totally new behavior for me. For 3D it’s Prime 1, still the best 3D example of the genre.

The GitHub issue was quite the ride yesterday. Today it appears the user is gone from GitHub completely, taking the repo with it.
I’m glad the RPCS3 team jumped on that. The opened GH issue was straight to the point without any attacks or other BS. Good work from them.

I would expect the teenage years to be where most people’s sociopathy peaks before trailing off as they continue to mature emotionally.

- Comment on Bi-weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing? 2 months ago:
DS3 really nails that balance. Mostly linear but usually has some sort of side option if you need a break from your current wall of a boss. Playable end to end without devoting like 100 hours. It also comes after Bloodborne where From nailed down more fun active combat vs. relying on a shield, and before Elden Ring where they went hard on crazy delayed boss attacks.
These days DS3 is probably my favorite overall.

- Comment on Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, Inc. 5 months ago:
Yep.
Universal City Studios, Inc. v. Nintendo Co., Ltd.
Universal City Studios, Inc. v. Nintendo Co., Ltd. was a 1983 legal case heard by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York by Judge Robert W. Sweet. In their complaint, Universal Studios alleged that Nintendo’s video game Donkey Kong was a trademark infringement of King Kong, the plot and characters of which Universal claimed as their own. Nintendo argued that Universal had themselves proven that King Kong’s plot and characters were in the public domain in Universal City Studios, Inc. v. RKO General, Inc.

Then maybe it shouldn’t be done at all.

This is just one search result but it’s showing 326 million phones shipped in just Q4 of last year. How many of those new phones do you think shipped with headphone jacks?
www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS51776424
There’s plenty of industry analysis out there that, while not perfect, is data showing that new phone sales have not been hampered by the removal of the headphone jack.
I’m rocking a Pixel 5a which does still have it and I do get a warm and fuzzy in my nerd brain by having it there. If I’m honest though, I used it maybe twice in the last year.

Even when it does work you can end up with an empty box where the ad should be, still covering content, still with an infinitesimally small X to close the empty box.

For me it was the “Amazon Day” shipping that bundles up a week’s worth of separate orders into one shipping day. Convenient sure but now I’m not getting 2-day shipping… so what am I paying for again? I’ll just bundle up the orders and shipping my damn self.
- Comment on YouTube uses lower quality options on browsers running on Arm-based systems — misreporting as an x86 CPU appears to be a widespread browser fix 1 year ago:
Or it’s a company so fuckoff huge that one department (Chrome on Android) couldn’t get a bug report escalated in another department (YouTube). Eventually they just put in a UA workaround while the bug rots in a backlog somewhere. Common enterprise bullshit.
Or the Chrome on Android team didn’t even bother reporting the issue to YouTube and just threw in a cheap workaround. Also common enterprise bullshit.
- Comment on Spotify to axe 1,500 workers to save costs 1 year ago:
And I’m very much not a fan of fucking up podcasts as a simple medium delivered by RSS. I have a futile hope that that decision will burn them.
This was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. When they started locking up shows to their app, I cancelled my subscription and dropped Spotify entirely. I don’t even listen to any of the shows they bought but I do listen to a lot of podcasts through Pocket Casts and take umbrage when anybody fucks with the standards.

It’s not that wine is bad at supporting Windows appliances necessarily. If you (or your company) buys software that supports some versions of Windows and you open a support ticket with some issue running in Linux under wine, that’s a ticket that will likely be closed fast as an unsupported configuration.

Good luck getting support for commercial software if you’re running it under wine.
