- Comment on Sugar vs baking soda to neutralize acid in canned tomatoes? 2 weeks ago:
Tomatoes are acidic, backing soda is alkaline, sugar is neutral. Adding baking soda to canned tomatoes will neutralize the acid but won’t change the taste too much (depending on the amount). Adding sugar won’t change the acidity of tomatoes but will greatly change the taste.
From my personal experience, adding sugar to a simmering tomato sauce for long enough that sugar caramelizes, will make the sauce way better.

Let’s start with saying that the so called AI is not “intelligence”. It’s just a pretty advanced algorithm doing some “magic”. Behind the scenes it’s just a regular linear algebra equations dealing with bazillions of rows and columns feeded from the huge matrix. Modern mobile devices are capable of running “AI” models locally but it would cost a lot of power which would make a phone as unusable as Apple watch (aka charge it few times a day). So, the easy tasks like face id are done locally, more complex one (voice assistants) are outsourced to the cloud.
- Comment on Inquiry warns distrustful public wouldn’t accept COVID measures in future pandemic. 2 weeks ago:
While I agree that the federal government response was at best mediocre, the people were just plain stupid. I cannot count situations where people were refusing to were a mask because it “limits the human rights” or “it suffocates”. Honestly, I hope next pandemic will be more deadly, so the nature will run its course.

I will play the devil’s advocate. What if the youths that committed the crimes just grew up and now appear in the adult’s crime stats?

According to BOM aurora won’t be visible - www.sws.bom.gov.au/Aurora/3/1. On the other hand there was a huge solar flare released yesterday so maybe it will be visible.
- Comment on there's now more ads in "legit" sites (YouTube, amazon) than in piracy sites 1 month ago:
Mostly because of the amount of good quality content. But as I said, I’ve moved to radarr/sonarr so I interact with less and less.
- Comment on there's now more ads in "legit" sites (YouTube, amazon) than in piracy sites 1 month ago:
There is this torrent site I use that likes to use javascript to redirect to various malicious websites on every single click. After reaching the desired amount of clicks, it start behaving like a normal, “legit” website. Just of out curiosity I checked few other torrent websites and got the same result. It got so annoying that I’m using radarr and sonarr to look for torrents.

I know what dns poisoning is but it usually happens on so called legit sites. Pirate sites serve you malware out of the box.
- Comment on there's now more ads in "legit" sites (YouTube, amazon) than in piracy sites 1 month ago:
Somehow “legit” sites won’t try to install malware on my laptop. So, I take more regular ads over piracy crap.
- Comment on What kind of messaging apps do you use? 2 months ago:
I use SMS and good old phone calls. You would be surprised how much people freak up when you call them. For work I use Slack, sometimes Teams. And on rare occasions, Messenger to talk to some family members.
- Comment on Banning TikTok Won’t Keep Your Data Safe | Pompous billionaires, authoritarian regimes, and opaque oligarchs are hoarding our data. Only an alternative online ecosystem will stop them. 2 months ago:
TikTok is not the problem. The problem is “I have nothing to hide” mindset. People don’t care about privacy because “ignorance is bliss”. Some people are just not aware about risks of giving up on privacy and other put continence over privacy. Until the general perception of privacy changes, apps like TikTok will thrive.

Unfortunately I cannot find this article about patterns in prime numbers. I remember it was pretty technical but apart from the general idea I’m not able to provide anymore details.

There’s nothing wrong with proprietary software as long as it’s respects user’s privacy and doesn’t do crazy licensing stuff.
- Comment on Disenshittify or Die 2 months ago:
And the solution for world hunger is to distribute food from rich countries into the poor countries. Here, I’ve fixed the famine issue. Do you get my point? It’s easy to say what to do but when it comes to the details, all those preachers fail short in giving the real solution to the real problem. As I said before, this is just a rant about how bad modern world is.
- Comment on Disenshittify or Die 2 months ago:
I think we have read a different blog post. There was something about Google’s antitrust thingy and that all big tech should be regulated but no straight solution were given.
Again, I agree withe the thesis but honestly, anyone who’s focused on privacy would tell you the same but in way fewer words.
BTW, similar issue was raised in The Age of Surveillance Capitalism. Pretty good read.
- Comment on Disenshittify or Die 2 months ago:
Let me save you the time and summarize the blog post - internet got worse, big tech is bad and the author is just ranting how bad it is nowadays. Nothing new, no idea how to fix it, just complaining about the modern world.
I’m not saying the author is wrong. It’s just I heard this many times before.

No product here, more like an advice. Instead of trying to thicken your hair, just embrace what’s happening. You will save a lot of time and money.
- Comment on NVIDIA: Copyrighted Books Are Just Statistical Correlations to Our AI Models. 2 months ago:
I vaguely remember reading about a way of writing down prime numbers that ended up in a pattern that could be translated into some kind of image. Math is awesome.
- Comment on NVIDIA: Copyrighted Books Are Just Statistical Correlations to Our AI Models. 2 months ago:
Technically they are correct. AI is nothing more than a ML, which is nothing more than complex statistics. Still, NVIDIA should be held accountable.

The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type any given text, including the complete works of William Shakespeare.
I wonder how many monkeys NVIDIA has? /s
