I feel in this case, it just “proves them right” . Your 5 year old won’t begin to use silence as a sign that they’re right and spread videos of that debate to thousands of people.
- Comment on Oh Jesus he is cooked 2 weeks ago:
yeah idk who “they” are specifically (i know in some state/city, they want the 10 commandments in schools), but I doubt they are a religious group that believes in all of the old testament, which means you make a very good point.

watched the video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZPWbpOnZ-8
Kirk actually has a good point in that those lines are from the old testament, which Christians believe doesn’t apply, and only believe in the new testament. Assuming Kirk is right that it isn’t in the new testament ( the Cambridge speaker doesn’t contest it either, for whatever that is worth). From the the student then pivots to talking about a new testament description along the lines of: Man shall not sleep with man, which he says can be interpreted differently than man and man and could be man and prostitute. Kirk contends that the traditions and interpretations were created during the time that the writings were created, and so there is no loss of translation then, and those understandings have been passed down until down consistently. I will say, i’ve summised this, but it is a lot more of a meandering argument afterwards that is not very interesting to watch.
I feel like the cambridge student shouldn’t have even brought up the lines in videos above because it doesn’t completely apply to Kirk’s religious beliefs. The student studied the bible decently enough to make his point, but it seemed he needed additional context of Kirk’s beliefs to make a strong point against Kirk.

It still feels like that’s crossing a boundary, i don’t know how you feel about that. I do recommend practicing socializing. Go to bars, events, etc. and just try to make conversation with people. Yeah you may start off being awkward, but you’ll get more comfortable as you practice.

yeah embarrassed for your dad. “evolve” wtf. this is too little context, but this can range from your dad genuinely caring about you(“complain you’re unable to find girls”) but the execution isn’t great, to just wanting to push you into doing certain things. This definitely requires a conversation with your dad about boundaries.
On another note, if you are trying to find people to date, you should figure why things aren’t working there, and see how you can improve your chances ( are you well kept? are you comfortable talking to new people? do you expose yourself to new people in order to both meet new people and also practice talking to new people? )
- Comment on President Trump threatened to break up Nvidia, didn't even know what it was — 'What the hell is Nvidia? I've never heard of it before' 2 months ago:
Thanks for all the info. He talks about learning about Nvidia in the past, and mentions talking about breaking it up. That doesn’t sound like a business man talking about getting involved in the company, or competing against it, that sounds like a politician wanting to address a very strong company. Trump has only been a politician for the past 9 years. So Trump just found out about the largest chip designer in the world 9 years ago… That seems absurd to me.

if you don’t use your phone very much, why even spend 500 USD on it? you can probably get a 200 usd phone to serve the same function. Honest question.

They do have ways of talking of classified information. Coincidentally, it is more tedious than using Signal and you are forced to keep records of those conversations, things that these people didn’t want.
- Comment on Satire is dead 👌 6 months ago:
That’s what Buttigieg indicated. There are secure means of communicating classified information, with a process for ensuring people with clearance are the only ones allowed to view this information. I imagine those rules are in place exactly for this reason, to prevent accidental leaks.
The rookies that Trump hired probably didn’t see the harm in doing it in this way, I mean come on, Signal is secure so what is there to worry about?
Who knows what else has been leaked to the wrong people accidentally.

Thanks I deleted it. Not certain how that happened.

Would this be good publicity or had publicity for signal? “Even government officials think we’re secure!” Or “Idiots actually think signal is secure for classified information”

Have you confirmed that no website you provide ad revenue or membership fees to used AWS? If you haven’t checked, then you probably have supported Amazon. Amazon makes most of their money through AWS.
Regardless, good on you for not buying from Amazon directly. I too haven’t purchased from them for years

- Comment on How is my bedroom being heated? 7 months ago:
This is certainly helpful. I am in an apartment that I’m certain has no floor heating. I hardly ever have to turn on the heater (gets as low as about 13-15 degrees sometimes). During the warmer days, I have to open my windows or else it gets extremely humid.

- Comment on Figuring Out The Most Efficient Way To Reuse Bags Of Desiccant 11 months ago:
Cool video. TL;DR : heating dessicant works to remove moisture from it. This applies to loose dessicant as well as the bagged ones. Microwaving at the lowest power level works rather well and what the author said they will do from now on. Downsides are that sometimes the microwave pops/damages the dessicant because of the excessive heat (meaning the packs begin to wear out over repeated reheating times) or some packaging types melting. Microwaves work pretty fast as well.
A another option is a mini oven at 110 degrees which takes longer than the microwave but doesn’t damages dessicant.
- Comment on HBO should use a different bumper for streaming. 11 months ago:
NPR did a podcast on those “bumpers” (there’s a term that I don’t recall). HBO wanted to change theirs for the reason you indicated as well as the fact that it was rather long compared to Netflix’s and others. They paid a lot of money to develop others and also do testing\ polling with end users. The original beat out all the rest because it’s been their bumper for so long.
