- Comment on Researcher has developed, at a cost of less than one dollar, a wireless light switch that runs without batteries, can be installed anywhere on a wall and could reduce the cost of wiring a house by ... 11 months ago:
I wouldn’t call it “harvesting” if you have operate power transmitters on each floor of the house. “Energy harvesting” usually means you are using something that is already present in the environment.
“each floor would have one or two RF (radio frequency) power transmitters to powe r up all switches inside the house.”

The article says they are powering it using dedicated transmitters:
“each floor would have one or two RF (radio frequency) power transmitters to power up all switches inside the house.”
It’s confusing because earlier they talk about energy harvesting, which implies “free”. But then they talk about how you will need to run these transmitters, which certainly isn’t free.

If I were to use this, would I use a Spotify login/password with it? I’m not clear if this app allows you to save playlists and favorites, etc.
- Comment on YouTube TV, which costs $73 a month, agrees to end “$600 less than cable” ads 1 year ago:
I think I’m saving about $500 per year, so the ad isn’t completely accurate. I think they based it on the savings from before they raised the rate to $73.

I went to YouTubeTV earlier this year and it’s definitely cheaper than RCN, which recently bought WOW. I have Comcast as a choice but they aren’t better. The base rate for RCN that they advertise is $59, but they add four different fees: Sports Surcharge, Broadcast TV surcharge, franchise fees, and Entertainment Networks Surcharge. After those add-ons it was $115, so I’m saving money because the YouTubeTV price is actually advertised properly, without these ridiculous add one.

They probably threaten some space telescopes, too. The Starlink satellites are a little higher than Hubble. I would imagine they might take up a decent amount of field of view to Hubble, by being closer.
- Comment on X can now ask users for government IDs to verify their paid accounts 1 year ago:
Just reading the text on the X site has some interesting contradictions, such as:
Benefits: Benefit from increased trust from other users who will see your ID verification label when they hover over your blue check mark.
More benefits to come: Speed up the process of obtaining a blue check mark through a simplified review process.
Translation: “You can trust us more because we will take more shortcuts in verifying people.”
