- Comment on In 2015, the Fortingall Yew, one of the oldest trees in Europe, decided trans rights are tree rights and switched its sex to female 🏳️⚧️ eat shit transphobes 1 week ago:
I think you could say part of one’s identity exists outside of the person. Their self-identity should be respected and often will align with what they project outwards, but that’s where people get confused about a person and then stubborn ones get fed up with the whole idea.
Anyway, in this case since the tree lacks sentience, it wouldn’t have an internalized gender that we could know, but we can see that its sexual characteristics have changed and give it a transexual label. The trans label can cover both.
- Comment on Team Fortress 2 Classic becomes Team Fortress 2 Classified and arrives January 30 3 weeks ago:
It was perpetuating a legacy from Team Fortress Classic, or TFC. Prior to that, Team Fortress went through a few iterations, including on the Quake engine and/or as mods, and later was rebranded when it was moved onto the Half-Life 1 engine.

I think they are saying they would rather depend on software and hardware that they can more or less control rather than cloud services

I’m sorry you are already so defeated about our chances. Why don’t you just stand aside and collect yourself rather than try to demoralize the rest of us?

My guess is that nukes represent more acceleration towards its downfall. Anybody using nukes is going to prompt a reaction and this will promote even more rapid destruction.

- Comment on We'll pass Trump tariffs back as higher prices for Americans: German firm 8 months ago:
I think you need a more extreme number if you say the words “would never sell” because that is only double the price.
With the other inflation we’ve seen, especially for the price of eggs, and upcoming tariffs those kinds of changes are not unheard of.
Supply and demand would still say that there would be less products designed and produced, but unless we are talking about specific branding, I would be surprised if supply or demand for any kind of product drops to zero.
- Comment on Switch 2 game-key cards won’t be account- or console-locked 8 months ago:
A more “controlling” company could try to lock down the cartridge or even a disc with the logic that the license is tied to the purchaser. It doesn’t seem like much since that is the status quo, but last generation Microsoft was testing those waters and we’re just happy that these boundaries aren’t being pushed again right now.
