I have a similar story. I’m glad you grew up, and I hope adulthood is treating you well!

Hmm, I’m trying to imagine measuring my worth with my penis. Like, if worth was a linear distance I could be like “I’m worth seven penises!”
- Comment on Sharks 3 months ago:
As I understand it, sharks aren’t actually hungry all that often. They eat, then just spend a lot of time being chill sharks.

Ah, hadn’t heard of that, I guess I’ll have to check it out.

What browser are you going to use?
- Comment on How transwomen/transmen dream 3 months ago:
I’ve had a few dreams as a cis male where I was a woman, so basically I reject your premise. However in most dreams I’m not even a character, I’m just the perspective from which the story is experienced.

I’m fairly certain that the evil twin is the one on this side, that’s what’s really disconcerting.

I am not literally a part of my kids, but they wouldn’t be here without me.
- Comment on How can a person be very sad, irritated or angry and still not show it on their face ? 7 months ago:
For me it was growing up with religious fantastic parents who taught us to interpret the “wrong” emotions as moral failings.
I don’t know where you’re at in your life. Maybe you do need to learn to control your emotions more. But also consider learning to accept your emotions, learn what they are telling you, and find a healthy way to process them.
And if you have people in your life who can’t deal with you having emotions, you may need to evaluate that as well.

Probably, I didn’t mean to make it a competition. In both cases it’s a nonzero number and every one is a tragedy.

How many Einsteins have we missed out on because they were born in America to a working class or poor family or as a person in a marginalized group?

- Comment on Yesit is! 10 months ago:
Maybe it’s that restricting current would be more of an inductance thing than a resistance thing? Like Amp should be pushing the walls wider while Ohm tries to hold Volt back?

I hope no one ever seriously uses that, because he suggested it himself.

Lately I’ve been seriously thinking about resurrecting my FidoNet node. It looks like FidoNet still exists!

I imagine to accomplish this, you would probably be trying to rotate them out rather than pulling straight up.
- Comment on New study finds bots and fraud farms responsible for 73% of web traffic 11 months ago:
That’s a good question, I doubt I could make a very accurate guess. Just broadly though, based mainly on the lack of an immediately obvious payoff, I’d guess less than 50%.
- Comment on New study finds bots and fraud farms responsible for 73% of web traffic 11 months ago:
It amazes me when I spin up some random server on a cloud provider and it’s immediately getting tons of traffic from bots searching for insecure ssh servers and default WordPress admin credentials and then like. If that’s the short of stuff they’re counting, I’d believe it. But yeah, it’s not like all the commenters on this post are bots.

To be fair, the engineering solution is much more robust.
- Comment on Chad scraper 1 year ago:
In short, it’s the wrong tool for the job.
In practice, if your target is very limited and consistent, it’s probably fine. But as a general statement about someone’s behavior, it really sounds like someone is wasting a lot of time and regularly getting sub-par results.

I’m down with scraping, but “parses HTML with regex” has got me fucked up.
