I couldn’t read any further, so thanks for more context. I would really love it if we’d share more open articles here so there is the full context to digest and discuss

- this is a member only article so people are going to mention the (pay) wall
- this is about a tweet from 2020
- what does overthrowing a country have to do with c/technology?

It’s telling how you get downvoted, but someone saying the same shit about Apple in this thread gets upvoted.
I hate shitty practices like everybody else, but please keep them to the same standard.
- Comment on Palworld devs heard “nothing at all” from Pokémon creators despite everyone calling it 'Pokémon with guns' 5 days ago:
Which is what everyone with some sense predicted, except Xitter exploded into drama from faking proof that it was directly copying Pokémon to claiming wild things like using gen AI to create the models.
These things are easily verified (or rather, debunked), but it was already too late. I lost a lot of faith in some gaming journalists as they kept perpetuating the wild takes and claims.
We’ll do this all again soon with another game and we will not learn from it.

- Comment on All three game console makers have now abandoned X integration 2 weeks ago:
I’m glad they finally added directly beaming them to your smartphone.
Well, directly is a stretch. But at least the direct WiFi method means I didn’t have to use a throwaway twitter account anymore to transfer my screenshots and video captures without removing the SD card.
- Comment on YouTube offers virtual trophies so you can feel bad about quitting premium 5 weeks ago:
I’ve only used it for three weeks and I have “earned” 19 different “badges” in 9 different categories, if you want an idea.
- Comment on YouTube offers virtual trophies so you can feel bad about quitting premium 1 month ago:
I don’t think many people are aware that premium is used to give revenue to content creators as well. This might be the cause of some downvotes.
I agree that my favorite content creators need to eat too, and I do support them through other, more direct and tangible means like Patreon and merch.
It’s about creating the funding that allows your content creators to feed themselves.
This is not about premium being a thing. This is about virtual shinies being dangled in front of your face to manipulate you in making choices you otherwise might not, and encouraging users to spend as much time on the app as possible. Taking advantage of people that are susceptible to this kind of marketing should not be legal, but that’s just my opinion.

How much are you getting paid, brother? Perhaps we can do a fundraiser on Lemmy to double it so we can make you stop posting your bullshit

Wow that sounds atrocious. Music glitching is such a mood killer. Hope you’re in a better place today.

Not saying that, but a Xitter rando? C’mon man. We can do better than just posting words from random people without fact checking or verification just because it aligns with our opinions.

I also trust a blue check Xitter squirrel over a nation’s leader

I might be missing a lot of nuance, but living somewhere for 10 years should be enough to be allowed to vote locally. What was it before? A higher number or not at all?
- Comment on UK petition of "Require videogame publishers to keep games they have sold in a working state" just got thrown back to the Government 1 month ago:
It would make sense to require a company to release the code for players to host their own servers, which has been done by many games in the past. Not to continue to run it themselves.
That’s basically what people are asking for. Instead of not being playable anymore, give consumers the means to keep it going for themselves.
This could mean always-online having to be gutted from the game after it’s support ends so you can play it offline. Or server hosting files to host your own private or public server.
The goal is to have games not be impossible to play after X amount of time. How companies reach that goal is up to them.

As lemmy.world/u/efstajas pointed out, it’s pretty common.
Discord doesn’t sell your data. They repeatedly state they don’t in their terms of service, and they would be in big trouble if caught lying about that.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
It’s not related to the pronoun picker bot, it’s just for analytics
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
You don’t give your gender to Discord when signing up. It’s also nothing to do with the pronouns that you can set with the integrated app/bot, that only counts for the server you’re in
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
“Like other companies, we use information to help us understand our business and improve the product. That includes certain inferences we may make about users. We include this information in users’ data requests for transparency, and users can limit the information we use by toggling the “Use data to improve Discord” off in the Privacy & Safety settings.”
So nothing really interesting. They are allowed to make a guess at my gender, I don’t care. They don’t have 3rd party ads and don’t sell my data, so it’s cool.
I know this goes against the grain here and we love to pile on walled gardens, but it’s really nothing out of the ordinary.

Why do you need two apps on each platform to replace one? I would love to switch over things but this makes it sound so much more complicated than it probably is

While I agree with everything said, using Google to find out how many episodes your own podcast has just seems a bit lazy. Bookmark the page, and next time you want to do your admin work you can follow the bookmarks and be done with it. Easy fix.
Also, use DDG
- Comment on The AC game set in feudal Japan is called Assassins Creed Shadows, may have leaked its own release date 1 month ago:
The game might be revolutionary and I will still pass. Somewhere between ruining franchises and turning them into open world Ubisoup games, publishing “AAAA” games, sexual harassment by executives, and more, I have lost all interest.

Again, it’s simply faster to turn off data and scan the QR code than it is to force my phone to connect to a network that isn’t connected to the internet.
You have to connect to the network in order to transfer anything, so what do you mean? I’m talking the second QR code that’s simply a link to the IP address I linked. I can just open my browser (after being connected to the Switch’s WiFi) and type a 1 to let it autofill to skip scanning it at all.

Perfect excuse to start over for me. Even though old saves should be compatible, but with early access YMMV

- Comment on Nintendo Switch Is Removing Integration for X, Formerly Twitter 1 month ago:
Yeah it’s so cumbersome, especially if you forget data being on.
At least you can bookmark the second QR code because it’s always the same IP address. So once you’re connected you can just directly navigate to

Yes, when you go to their site and do the verification, they were able to link your IP to your discord username via their backend. This is done outside of the Discord API.
- Comment on Discord Shuts Down ‘Spy Pet’ Bots That Scraped, Sold User Messages 2 months ago:
Look at the update comment to that video. The bot creator did it on purpose. Nothing to do with Discord’s verification system.
