  I tend to agree with that, the backlash at my company has been wild. Lot’s of people making “career inhibiting” statements on Slack out of anger of the new policies, and in my opinion the executives have been extremely rude and disrespectful in their responses. I believe they want their US employees to leave the company so they can outsource to lower cost labor markets. Which never works out in my industry and in the early 2000s almost destroyed the company I work for, but these people never learn or care. They just want their 5th house and 2nd yacht.

  All these companies are following a single directive from McKinsey. That’s why all their policies are the same. 3 days a week. Within 50 miles of an office you have to go in. If you don’t you should get paid 20k less.

  These numbers all come from this bullshit consulting firm with a long history of terrible advice. CEOs are seemingly incapable of critical thought.

  Think of all the pollution that will be caused running new fiber cable to bumblefuck nowhere so 1 additional person or family can access the internet. It doesn’t make any more sense than Starlink, much less sense at that.

  It is very improbable that there will be a collision caused by a starlink satellite. While Musk is certainly an idiot who can’t be trusted, there are intelligent people who work for SpaceX who have considered all this and more before launching their satellites.

  Elon Musk is a total fool and an idiot, but like others said, this article is hogwash. The satellites do not pose a risk for Kessler Syndrome due to their LEO. They will fall to earth and burn up. They also maneuver to avoid collisions. It is highly unlikely to contribute anything at all to Kessler Syndrome.

  Additionally, how are they comparing carbon footprint? Article is behind paywall. The internet infrastructure on earth didn’t pop into existence out of thin air, carbon neutral. The trucks and ships used to lay wire, the mining and manufacturing of everything involved in the process, creates carbon for both. The carbon that would be created to provide access to rural areas as an alternative. If you are going to count the carbon to make and fuel spaceships, you must also count the carbon to make the ships that lay and maintain undersea cables and trucks that maintain cable on land.

  A combination of software and hardware is needed. I’ve had a yubikey since ~2010. Now I have 3 for different purposes. Mostly to unlock accounts for the first time on a device, then use software for subsequent logins.
