- Comment on Steam has now officially stopped supporting Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. 10 months ago:
Especially if you’re not gonna play stuff that the anticheat locks you out from, the experience is great. As other commenters have said, ProtonDB.com has resources for how well games on steam run under Proton / On Linux.
Although, I would recommend Nobara Linux over Chimera OS due to a lack of experience with Proton and other gaming-related tools. Nobara Linux comes from the same developer as Proton-GE (GloriousEggroll). Proton is the tool that Valve developed to run Windows games pretty much seemlessly, and Proton-GE adds extra features and patches on-top of it that can help support more games or get the slightest extra bit of performance out of Proton. Nobara Linux extends this concept to the entire OS, with a stable Fedora base that gets a major update every ~6 months.
(This doesn’t mean that you don’t get updates for 6 months, just that major releases, e.g from 39 to 40 happen every ~6 months)
- Comment on Steam no longer supports Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 10 months ago:
Note that dropping support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 came as part of a butterfly effect of the Chromium project - which Steam depends on - dropping support.
- Comment on "Trust and Safety" departments exist to protect the company, not users. 10 months ago:
We shouldn’t judge people for past decisons when new info comes out, especially when that new info makes them change. It will take some time for people to move and find a viable alternative.
I do not intend this to be an attack of any kind, please be more considerate of the fact that changes can’t be made instantly when you have an audience to move.

- Comment on Possible to use external image for community banner? 1 year ago:
Technically Lemmy supports this, but there’s no UI for it. I remember someone made a PR which adds a UI for external media for Avatars, Banners and such, but it hasn’t been approved yet.

I agree in the fact that some ML algorithms are used daily by nearly all who have a smartphone, but things like increasing the touch target is BS. It’s quite easy to confirm by simply either looking at the code or enabling “show layout bounds” in Android’s Developer Options.

- Comment on Terraria developer bashes Unity, donates $200k to open source alternatives 1 year ago:
You‘re forgetting that this doesn‘t only come with money, but also free press, which is sometimes worth more as it would expose more people to Godot‘s existence, any of which may potentially donate :P
- Comment on Terraria developer bashes Unity, donates $200k to open source alternatives 1 year ago:
True! Considering Godot and FNA’s current size this is indeed going to catapult them to a different league, which I guess is what Re-Logic was setting out to do :P

Common Re-Logic W
Seriously though, whilst the budget they can give to Godot and FNA is small compared to what other, bigger devs/publishers could give, I find their commitment remarkable and very much in-line with their goal of empowering developers and gamers alike
We need more publishers doing things like this
- Comment on A key feature of NFTs has completely broken / Web3 was supposed to make sure the original artist always got paid. Not so much anymore. 1 year ago:
Sorry to disappoint ya, but the thing that gets stored on the blockchain isn’t the image itself but usually just a link to the image, sometimes with a hash of the image.
You’re not storing the image itself on the blockchain, meaning if the link goes down your NFT is useless.
- Comment on Subscriber number discrepancies between instances. 1 year ago:
Data is loaded from your instance. If your instance only started to federate when a community already had like 500 subs, it won’t know those existed and start counting anew on your end.
It’s a limitation of our current federation solutions and the reason that many clients will offer an option to load this data directly from the instances they originate from.
