I want to avoid “everyone has free speech, but some have more free speech than others” from becoming precedent.
- Comment on TikTok sues the US government over ban 1 day ago:
To be fair, so is League of Legends and every product made by Tencent and their subsidiaries. If they’re going to go ahead with a ban, they should at least keep it consistent.

As long as you aren’t committing copyright infringement by using a meme you don’t have the rights to, and otherwise meeting the standards of having a “modicum of creativity,” I don’t see why you wouldn’t have copyright on it. That being said, there are few goals more futile than that of trying to remove something off the internet for copyright infringement.
- Comment on What is the Anti Commercial-Al license and why do people keep adding it to their comments? 1 week ago:
Why wouldn’t it be? It’s just as much a textual medium as a PDF, or a book, for that matter. Hell, any file on a computer can be read as characters. I could type Homer’s Odyssey in a series of comments, or the source code to DOOM, or the color values of every pixel of every frame of a video I took of my friend chasing a duck.
- Comment on House Passes Bill That Defines Criticism of Israel as “Antisemitism” 1 week ago:
a false statement purporting to be fact
So if you make up some BS and try to pedal it as fact, it is not protected speech. That doesn’t make your lies facts, nor does it make them opinions. They’re just lies.
- Comment on What is the Anti Commercial-Al license and why do people keep adding it to their comments? 1 week ago:
Yes, so you have copyright when you make the work. I have copyright on this comment just for having written it. Pasting a CC notice would give me less control over the use of this comment, not more. Regardless, I doubt anyone is planning on suing a multi-billion dollar business over their comments on social media being used as training data.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Truth is widely accepted as a complete defense to all defamation claims.
The way you win a defamation lawsuit is by proving what you’re claiming is factually correct. I’m gonna need some sort of case law citation showing that what you’re claiming was ever an established interpretation.
- Comment on What is the Anti Commercial-Al license and why do people keep adding it to their comments? 1 week ago:
It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of how you automatically have copyright on any written work you produce, and how it’s unclear whether any sort of licensing even applies to training data in the US.

If they actually gave a shit about their users, they would defederate instances that cause problems and break their ToS. In reality, the admins are just going by the Reddit playbook of “don’t do anything until it makes us look bad.”
- Comment on Possible snipers seen at OSU. Administration says they're not snipers but should be treated like they are. 1 week ago:
I think we could deal with the National Guard if people were motivated enough. Even I’m surprised with the shit some people get their hands on here. There’s plenty of people that treat the Second Amendment like a religion, and plenty of others that love blowing shit up for fun.

- Comment on Windows 11 will reportedly display a watermark if your PC does not support AI requirements. 1 week ago:
Linux doesn’t support as much software as Windows. The big line for me is that it can’t run Destiny 2.
- Comment on Possible snipers seen at OSU. Administration says they're not snipers but should be treated like they are. 1 week ago:
There won’t be any meaningful amount of violence. People in the US are total bitches when it comes to actually fighting the system. At worst, there will be a riot, where the most predominant activity is looting, and then the National Guard will be called in and everyone will roll over like they always do.

- Comment on ‘They Are Just Pissed Off’: Scott Galloway Warns Young People Are ‘Opting Out of America’ As Older Generations Failed Them 2 weeks ago:
I feel fucked by the rich, but I feel more directly fucked by the people a decade or two older than me in management at the jobs I’m applying to. As much as I’d love for the US to be more socialist and have better workers rights, it didn’t for my parents and it doesn’t for me. The sole difference is that I feel excluded from society, despite toeing the educational line my whole life.
- Comment on Reddit embracing all out enshittification 2 weeks ago:
Genocide denial and equating those fighting in a defensive war to Nazis is just as bad as hate speech. These people are just following fascist ideals, but replacing every instance of the phrase “right-wing” in fascism’s definition with “left-wing.” Flying a hammer and sickle doesn’t make it any less authoritarian, regardless of what they’re calling it.
- Comment on Reddit embracing all out enshittification 2 weeks ago:
It’s just replaced with propaganda from nations that “tried” communism. I’ve seen plenty of people from tankie instances saying shit about how Ukraine should just roll over to Russia so that they solve their Nazi problem, how the Uyghur people aren’t being ethnically cleansed, and other such wonderful talking points coming from the Russian and Chinese governments.
