  I don’t think it qualifies as jumping on the band wagon since they’re already doing it. This is just them reiterating their pledge and getting some good publicity out of it, which I think is perfectly fine.

  The rover only has environmental testing to go through and is otherwise ready. So since they are launching the rocket anyway, why not just use the rover without testing instead of a mass simulator. What’s the worst that could happen?
