N/L are “reversed” on the UK BS1363 standard vs US/EU Earthed plugs. By having two sets of N/L you can ensure that they are always correctly wired.
This is often why some adaptors seem to be “upside down”
Most devices can handle N/L being swapped, though.

- Comment on xkcd #3164: Metric Tip 1 month ago:
Baking is a big one yes. Not just American recipes - old British ones too. And there are various useful estimations you can use too; one egg is about an ounce. Three ounces each of flour, sugar, butter plus three eggs makes a pretty good Victoria sponge which fits nicely in a 12cm baking tin.
The madness continues
- Comment on xkcd #3164: Metric Tip 1 month ago:
The UK….yeah
Distance in miles but fuel in litres so miles per gallon figures that we are given are basically just a scale to compare against other cars.
Except on our roads some things are actually in metric, like if a sign says “100 yards” that’s actually 100 meters, since it was the first step in converting everything to metric (which we appear to have given up on)
Beer and milk are in Pints…but some places now do milk in litres.
Shops must sell loose items in metric, but are also allowed to sell them in imperial
I grew up being taught in both, but was told that metric was the future so not to worry too much about imperial, so I confuse the number of ounces in a pound quite often, amongst other things
Where I work, the vast majority of things are metric…except very old drawings, which sometimes use yards.
Honestly I would prefer we just switch to metric and stay there, but the road sign argument is “cost” and even 20 years ago that was quite valid.

Berlin Hbf. They have a single set of toilets about half the size of what you’d get in a shopping center which cost €2 with turnstyle access for a station the size of a cathedral with something like 20 platforms. 🙈

Yes! And that’s amazingly similar to Harry (but also completely different) - Harry goes around the various offices on his swivel chair (backwards, because kicking off things is of course easier) and fires staples at malfunctioning robots

I bloody loved Harry The Handsome Executive. It was an Ambrosia Software shareware game from the 90s and was surprisingly underrated. Will probably run on Infinite Mac but it never got an OS X port or anything

You’re not required to carry your driving license, though. You only need to present it at a police station within 7 days of being stopped if asked.
The way I could see this being useful would be a version of the driving license we already have, but with no entitlements to drive on the back for people who don’t. No other changes.

If you are a big company there are often ESCROW agreements for things like this. I have encountered the “data dumps” from time to time and whilst it’s “better” it’s not ideal. Half finished documentarian, virtual machines of mis-configured OS installs… it’s almost as if it was just a straight copy of the development environment as it was just as they made the final version of the software…
But it’s better than nothing.
Main issue I can see with this forcing open source would be libraries and frameworks licensed from others who would likely still be in business and wouldn’t agree to those parts becoming open sourced. See also WinAMP theregister.com/…/opensourcing_of_winamp_goes_bad…
