- Comment on Is it generally safe to walk through a field of cows? 6 days ago:
Where would you come across a bull though? I’ve never seen one in a field with cows.
- Comment on Solving CAPTCHA for 'Bicycle' -- Include Rider? 1 month ago:
I don’t include the rider. More confusing are stairs and crosswalks: where do they start and end? Often, there is no crosswalk on the picture but you have to select other road markings to continue. So it doesn’t really matter.
- Comment on BBC thinks we might as well get comfortable, fellow Zoomers. 1 month ago:
Well, they’re not wrong. If I had known I’d be in the same place after 10 years, I would’ve made myself more comfortable.
- Comment on Which is the best Lemmy app for mobile? 1 month ago:
Out of the ones I’ve tried (Jerboa, Connect, Thunder), I think Thunder is best (after a little config) : github.com/thunder-app/thunder/releases
- Comment on As a long-time user hearing YouTube wants to play ads when I pause a video 1 month ago:
I must be out of touch.
I didn’t think I’d need an app to visit YouTube.
- Comment on As a long-time user hearing YouTube wants to play ads when I pause a video 1 month ago:
Tbf the only reason I know that YouTube has paid subscriptions is because of threads like this one, so it doesn’t seem like they’re really pushing their paid service.
Maybe they’re only targeting people who, for some reason, don’t block ads, and that’s why I’m unaware, but they should offer a little more than the things you can get for free already (no ads, downloading) if they want to draw in the adblocker crowd too.
Now people will start to google what’s up with all those ads and end up installing uBlock.
- Comment on As a long-time user hearing YouTube wants to play ads when I pause a video 2 months ago:
I accidentally watched a YouTube video on a browser without blocking. It started with an ad. I thought I’d just endure it this time. Then another ad. OK, just this time then. Suddenly, another ad in the middle of the video. I gave up. Who’d have the patience to sit through this?
Then there’s Google’s habit of completely ignoring the browser’s language settings so I have to sit though ads I don’t even understand.
- Comment on They really want people to RTO 2 months ago:
Yeah I only got some cheap chair, but honestly the problem is less with the chair, more with how I sit.

🤷♂️
I have breakfast while I work in bed. It’s so much better. Then I switch between my chair and my bed throughout the day. Office chairs fuck up my back and I’m constantly tired at my age (since covid)

If it survived a previous owner, it’ll probably last longer than new clothes with today’s quality
- Comment on Young adults are getting used to living on a financial cliff 4 months ago:
I may be somewhere in the middle. I see students around me traveling the world like it’s nothing, eating and drinking out all the time… Maybe they’re doing something right. I’m saving up half of my salary every month but for what? It’s never enough to own my own home and I’ll never retire anyway. Maybe having a little luxury right now instead of saving for an unknown isn’t that bad.
- Comment on I'm a US citizen, people in other countries, what do you think when you read stories like these about the US health care system? 4 months ago:
One thing that’s different out that there is no such thing as not being able to pay for health insurance. You are required by law to be insured. This also means the government mostly covers it for you if you can’t.
You may have to pay out of pocket for the first few hundred euros when something happens, but insurance covers the rest. There’s no way a person’s life savings would disappear overnight because of a medical issue. I’d rather die than pay what I sacrificed 30+ years to save up for.
- Comment on Young adults set an earlier bedtime as they navigate economic fatigue, wellness trends, and a loneliness epidemic 4 months ago:
(Paywall, can’t read – but) I spend over 8 hours per day working before I have time for cooking, shopping, cleaning etc. It’s around 9pm when my life begins. Who has time to sleep early?
- Comment on How do you find the mental fortitude to keep doing a job you don’t quite like due to the coworkers while you look for a new one even if you don’t know you are sure you’re going to quit? 5 months ago:
My colleagues also like to shun me, which shouldn’t be a problem working remotely, but all the people who come to the office and have connections just got their promotions. Working hard and being good at your job are just not as important as being loud and knowing people. I just had a short holiday and I just can’t get my motivation to work anymore since I’m back.
So I’ll just keep slacking off and look for other opportunities in the meantime or maybe they’ll fire me at some point and I’ll have some time to travel or something.
- Comment on Google News Is Boosting Garbage AI-Generated Articles 5 months ago:
I tried using it for a while and kept saying I’m not interested in this topic on nearly everything, but Google News just keeps being shit. Can’t even call it news mostly.
- Comment on I hate that I am become this person but: are delivery drivers just allowed to call and say 'please come and meet me' now? 6 months ago:
If there’s a delivery, they usually call so you have time to get dressed and get down (because it’s always easily in the morning). That’s normal for package delivery, at least. I’ve never ordered food though.

Syncthing - to sync files with other devices

Not with my ING account
- Comment on Do any ATMs in Belgium support balance inquiries? 7 months ago:
As far as I know, European banks never give you the option for balance inquiry. ATMs in e.g. Asia may give the option but it won’t work with a European bank card.

- Comment on Why are people hyped about RSS regaining relevance? 9 months ago:
I keep hearing about Google being part of the downfall but I honestly never heard of Google Ready long after it got closed down. How was this different than other RSS readers?
- Comment on Why are people hyped about RSS regaining relevance? 9 months ago:
Feeds can be set up to just show part of the article so you’d still have to visit the site to read it all, which seems a better solution than losing the traffic completely. I’ve deleted many sites that just stopped their RSS at some point and I just kind of forgot about them.
Also, why can’t sponsored texts be added to RSS? It seems to me this would be hard to block by adblockers (and I’ll probably unsubscribe, but still).
- Comment on Why are people hyped about RSS regaining relevance? 9 months ago:
I used to rely on news feeds through Firefox until they suddenly removed this feature. I switched to an RSS reader but around the same time, a lot of websites started dropping their RSS feeds. I’m out of the loop of why this happened and it’s probably one reason I feel so bored being online nowadays

Maybe consider using a launcher for that, like albertlauncher (Linux) or ueli (Windows).
- Comment on Would a re-elected Donald Trump ruin Democracy across the globe in a domino effect? 10 months ago:
I disagree. There are large groups of (lower class) people who consume mostly American media, e.g. through Facebook and it does have an effect. American politics are copied in Europe.
- Comment on Do people just not use the YouTube subscription feed? 11 months ago:
Maybe unrelated but what I do when I find a good channel: I click their name, go to their videos tab and look if there’s other good stuff. Often videos a bit older have very few views while the newer one has loads, which makes me think nobody ever clicks through all this.
But I also don’t log in to Youtube. I had a separate Youtube account until they forced me to use a Google account. I can always delete my YouTube cookies when the recommendations get to shitty.
