- Comment on European iPhones are more fun now 2 months ago:
Absolutely it was better. But it’s hard to believe that Apple, who was a part of the USB-IF, didn’t know USB-C was in the works. My conspiracy theory is they knew an open standard was imminent and launched lightning to keep getting those MFI licensing checks and purposely made that long of a commitment strictly so, when regulators asked why they hadn’t switched to the new standard yet, they could say it was to “help the environment.”

And theypromised to do so for at least 10 years.

Can someone explain why spray foam seems to be the go-to for US construction? Is it different types of wood/treated vs untreated?

Relax guys. It’s a Nintendo Switch, those things never get hacked.
- Comment on 'One of the wildest Finnish startup says it can speed up any CPU by 100x using a tiny piece of hardware with no recoding 4 months ago:
I get that we have to impress shareholders, but why can’t they just be honest and say it doubles CPU performance with the chance of even further improvement with software optimization. Doubling performance of the same hardware is still HUGE.
- Comment on What was the last IBM ThinkPad? 4 months ago:
We switched from Dell to Lenovo at work and the amount of times I’ve had to totally reformat a computer for something just randomly not working right and not being able to find another fix for it has gone to almost zero. Before, with 20 computers, every couple months we had to reformat at least one laptop.
Not a single person has complained about missing Dell in two years.

As others here have mentioned, Tdarr can handle a lot of it automatically
- Comment on Not only are they watching you, they're judging you. 6 months ago:
Absolutely, it should be. I was being very sarcastic in my other post and basically said Squid didn’t outright say he wasn’t being paid, so that MUST mean he’s being paid and it was removed with a message saying I shouldn’t call a mod a shill.
Which honestly makes me think that I struck a nerve now.
I used to hate the hail corporate subreddit back in the day because literally anything with a logo was considered an ad by them, however nobody can deny that that kind of deceptive advertising totally happens.

Careful, my comment was removed for jokingly saying OP was a shill for not outright saying Spotify wasn’t paying him.

Obviously a corporate shill. He never outright said he wasn’t being payed.

Living in the Midwest, I’ve never really dealt with a major power outage we didn’t expect. Power company will send out a (very rare) notice if they are doing anything that might bring down power and usually if a thunderstorm starts to get rough, we shut down anything important so power flicker/surges don’t hurt it.
- Comment on Cummins Diesel Cheats Emissions Tests - Fined $1.6B by US 8 months ago:
You can buy a Cummins crate engine for $10,000. Assuming that’s a large markup compared to the negotiated amount I’m sure the vehicle manufacturers got, I would bet they’re being fined around 20 percent of what they made off of selling the engines to manufacturers.
Probably not enough to kill the company, but definitely enough to make them think twice on doing it again (almost like what fines should be….).

- Comment on "Suggested" Facebook Disinfo (Moon Landing Hoax Page) 9 months ago:
There’s a clip that regularly goes around the internet of an astronaut doing something like drinking a glass of water and they just let it go and are shocked when it drops. I’m sure the same thing happens in space when they set something down and not perfectly still and it kind of floats away.
- Comment on Waiting on the ho-ho hotdogs for December 1 year ago:
I think it’s kind of like those 3D pictures where if you let your eyes unfocus and then slowly refocus, both images line up. I did it and it’s really weird since the colors are so different, but it looks like two images of hotdogs, one on top of the other.

- Comment on Apple will be able to update iPhones while they're still in the box, report claims 1 year ago:
My iPhone 15 came in the box back up, against the outside of the box. I think you could probably line up a wireless charger with a bit of work to get it to charge.

It did support extensions until they basically redesigned the app from the ground up a few years back. They said they’d focus on stability first then move on from there.
