- Comment on As Twitter destroys its brand by renaming itself X, Mastodon user numbers are again soaring | TechCrunch 1 year ago:
It won’t last unless Mastadon gets some serious improvements. It’s buggy, glitchy, feature-poor, and confusing to use. There’s no way in its current state it’s going to compete with the big guys for the average person’s attention.

If that’s the problem, then I would just use something like goimports to auto fix the imports every time I hit save. I never even see those errors so they don’t bother me.
- Comment on All smartphones, including iPhones, must have replaceable batteries by 2027 in the EU 1 year ago:
The problem with removable batteries is that you sacrifice water-proofness. That’s why iPhone batteries aren’t removable: Apple found that, on average, people prefer a water-proof phone over a replaceable battery. If you make the battery to removable, you can’t use sealants anymore, you’re just relying on a gasket.
Personally, I would rather have a phone that can handle being dropped in a sink full of dishes and am happy to pay $80 every 3 years to have the battery swapped.

I’m having a hard time envisioning a situation where testing my code requires a bunch of unused variables. Just don’t declare the variables until you’ve started writing the code that uses them…

Why in the world would you want to develop something that doesn’t follow the coding rules required by your org, just so you can go back and fix everything before submitting a PR? That’s just extra work.
- Comment on The most popular Chinese keyboard app which is used by more than 450 million monthly users sends every key typed to Tencent in China. 1 year ago:
That’s a bit over the top. The app only has access to the data you give it permission to access. So TikTok may have access to your contacts (don’t give TikTok access to your contacts, guys), but it won’t have access to your text messages or activity data.
