Please don’t use serif fonts for UI elements. Imagine the buttons on your file manager being Times New Roman. (eww.) I think what you’re looking for is a monospaced font that’s designed to distinguish O/0, I/1/l, etc.
Plug for one of my favorite fonts: www.jetbrains.com/lp/mono/

What was particularly sad this time was that the mods here, instead of deleting the abusive comments which I reported several times, decided instead to remove the whole post altogether while those comments themselves were never touched. So, not only the reporting option became pointless, but it also removed (in my opinion) a nice conversation on the topic. In the mod log they wrote ‘reason: Troll bait’ for why the post was removed, but I find…let’s say very coincidental that every time a discussion about Hexbear (which might start very calmly at first) has then to be locked or deleted because of the trolling.
I am almost certain that the post was removed by one of the admins on Hexbear. See their modlog: hexbear.net/modlog?page=1&userId=172774. They removed almost all comments made by @comr@hexbear.net, banned him, and removed the post.

You won’t see this, but I’m gonna say this anyway: Your admins also actively engage in building an echo chamber for Hexbears. Just look at the recent so-called “great purge” done by one of your admins. Your admins banned hundreds of people they disagree with politically. It’s kind of hypocritical that any Hexbears accuse others of censoring dissidents.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
Once, a Hexbear harassed me by asking me to post a picture of my dick. I reported the comment, messaged one of the admins, but so far the admins have ignored the reports and those offending comments are still up. Heck, I even tried to message the admin through Matrix but she rejected (not ignore) my message request. The admins there do not care if people outside Hexbear are harassed by Hexbears. All they do is ban people they don’t agree with.
Those three links if you want to see it for yourself:
It is my request that anyone reading this comment not message that admin to harass her.

Why are the pithy, dismissive responses not trolling? Those replies are exactly trolling.

I did not say that it was Hexbear downvoting us.

Gee I just looked up that @MomoTimeToDie@sh.itjust.works, and apparently he has 9 posts on !conservative@sh.itjust.works, with the highest scored post having a score of -14. There are only 10 posts in total on that community. Wow.
- Comment on Is there a way to block hexbear 1 year ago:
Yes, I know it’s a vote, but what’s so fundamentally different between the big Lemmy instances that you want to block some and not the others? Are the userbases of those big instances really that different from one another?

Genuine question, how do you guys decide which instances you want to federate with and which ones not?
- Comment on Is there a way to block hexbear 1 year ago:
Do you think it’s edgy, original, and cool to append “Death to America” to all your comments? I was also going to add “you even add that to your non-political comments” but then I realized that all your comments are in some way shitting on liberals.
- Comment on Is there a way to block hexbear 1 year ago:
I also noticed the 1 or 2 people downvoting our comments. Seems like some people just downvote things they don’t understand. Pathetic indeed.

people like you are the reason that people want to block hexbear.

that shit just shouldn’t be here
Yes, I agree. Maybe my wording suggested otherwise. But my point was that it wouldn’t be the uploader that’s punished but the instance itself. That’s kinda weird.

It’s honestly sad that some well-intentioned laws can be used to attack online platforms.

ChatGPT failed you.
Yeah, I guessed that when I saw it use the word liberal.

Their claim is clearly true. You should read the comments I linked to one by one.

Thank you for your comment. I actually do want to know why some people do not view democracy and authoritarianism as opposites.
- Comment on Hexbear federation megathread 1 year ago:
While it is possible for democracies to possess authoritarian elements, they are somewhat opposites of each other. Authoritarianism is characterized by the rejection of political plurality, and reductions in the rule of law, separation of powers, and democratic voting. The US embraces plurality and democratic voting, and also has a separation of powers. The government of the US does have its flaws, but it is by absolutely no means authoritarian. You are thinking about another word. While I’m not sure what that word is, ChatGPT suggests that it could be “illiberally democratic.”
- Comment on Hexbear federation megathread 1 year ago:
Sorry, I think my sentence was worded poorly. What I meant was that authoritarianism is a concept suppressed by the government, yet some people believe that it is better than democracy.

As someone who has gotten many, many, many rude comments (some of them were polite though) from hexbears, I felt the need to chip in. These comments had me brooding over them all day long for a couple of days. (I have since then moved on.) I listed the links to the rude comments below, but I think I should make it clear that while I used to support the idea of defederating from them, I have changed my stance since I heard about the upcoming changes to Lemmy allowing users to block instances. People should be able to decide this for themselves, but it is too much effort to switch instances to decide which instances you don’t want to see.
Please do also note that I chose to leave out the polite comments in the list below. If you don’t want to click on every link, just check out the first one and the last one.

- lemm.ee/comment/2072476 (said something about my "paranoid conspiracy theories in response to my comment “I know right! How come there are so, so many people defending China here? I thought they were the minority. Ugh. When I was back on Reddit comments like those would always be downvoted to hell.” (a few layers up the thread) I do admit that my comment was a bit arrogant though.)
- lemm.ee/comment/2072476 (saying that I brought the stormfront (reddit) with me when I expressed my concerns about the number of pro-china comments)
- lemm.ee/comment/2071603 (horrible, horrible spelling mistakes, randomly capitalized words, and misuse of punctuation marks. the comment did not make much sense as a whole either.)
- lemm.ee/comment/2072444 (mocked me for calling another hexbear out for calling someone a “paranoid weirdo.” I just commented that this behavior is “plain rude and disrespectful.”)

BTW I now believe that the more than 10 upvotes each of their comments get are actually legitimate. I should not have called their upvote counts “sketchy.” Sorry.)
:::
There are so many people who believe that the ideology suppressed by the government is always bad. While this is sometimes the case, this is definitely not the case for authoritarianism.
