- Comment on Why is the term "bloodline" often used instead of "family tree"? 1 week ago:
Whichever path it takes. It will only go in a single path unless you have some incestuous relationships. And if that happens and multiple routes work, it doesn’t matter which one you take.
- Comment on Why is the term "bloodline" often used instead of "family tree"? 1 week ago:
So if you look at a family tree, the bloodline is the direct order from person a to person b, with everyone in the middle. It doesn’t include everyone else that isn’t in that direct path.
- Comment on My parents never did any extravagant trips like to Disney world or Sea world. Knowing what I know now I'm kinda grateful for that. 3 weeks ago:
These places have their goods and bads.
Disney in the past weren’t nearly so exploitive and expensive. They truly did give an extremely fun and entertaining experience to the guests. They did much better at treating their employees. They have pushed technological boundaries on the entertainment front. They built parks that have genuinely made millions happy. They aren’t perfect as a corporation and I have a shitload of gripes with their management and leadership, but they put out a pretty damn good product.
Nowadays, they do underpay and over charge. They are cashing in on nostalgia and not doing enough to foster that in the next generation. They’re no longer targeting family fun but are instead putting more towards the mid-20s to late 30s market. I haven’t felt it was worth the money in a long time.
Sea world. While they have done terrible things especially in the Orcas, they also put on a very, very entertaining theme park. They do fund a lot of research and coastal animal refuges.

Growing up in southern California. Disneyland was common, and so common that I ended up working there. It’s changed a lot in the last twenty years.
I still go to Disneyland regularly, but it’s always because I know someone that can still get me and my family in. I’m fortunate that I haven’t paid to go to Disneyland in over 16 years, and I’ve been hundreds of times. Now, I typically get disappointed when I’m there. I’ve seen the parks go downhill and the prices go way, way up.
I’ve been to Sea World growing up, since it was a two hour drive. And Lego Land. And Six Flags.
It’s not the parks that are spoiled, it’s the flights and hotels that make these things wild trips for spoiled kids.
- Comment on New car buyers driven to white or grey, with bright colours rarer than ever, data shows 4 weeks ago:
I remember a study that linked car colors with people’s perception of the economy or something. When people were optimistic, they bought brighter colors.
But all I want is fun brought back to cars. Give me neon, pastels, or bright colors. I’m sick of the monotony on the road of white, gray, and black. Even the reds and blues are darker and deeper. Give me a nice surf green or candy apple red.

Residential listings were “white pages” and businesses were “yellow pages.”
Yes, they were big, printed on very thin paper, with small typeface.
- Comment on I designed a cardboard cutter that turns boxes into free cat scratchers 1 month ago:
I’ve made a few things. One, Mickey shaped cabinet hardware I put up for free because I didn’t want to deal with Disney. Though I might put the raw print up on Etsy or something just because.
Another is a frame to turn a Disney name tag into an ornament. I’m selling the completed product rather than releasing the design because I wanted to really offer it to people who didn’t have 3d printers and wanted to ensure that it met my standards. And I didn’t want competition. That said, it takes quite a lot of time to print, prep, sand, and paint. I spend a couple hours in finishing each and sell it at a price that… Totally doesn’t make it worth it.

I think this really underpins that much of the internet is built on systems we assume will last forever.
The single TLD that changed it’s whois domain and let the old one expire was the cause.

When a student goes to school, the school becomes in loco parentis and the student doesn’t have protection from school officials. Children, on campus, general do not have protection for free speech, protection from unreasonable searches or seizures, or really any of their rights.
The school, acting as parents, can restrict their speech, search their bags, and confiscate contraband.
- Comment on Why does the USA have so few legal protections for ordinary people, and how can we change that? 2 months ago:
$1000 is likely small claims court. At least where I was, no lawyers are allowed for small claims so the landlord would have to come to deal with it himself or a representative of the payment company.
- Comment on How do people in this day in age become nazis/neonazies sexist or even incels when there is so much knowledge against it? Do they get anything out of being that way? 2 months ago:
External locus of control.
Bad things in someone’s life is not their fault, but the fault of whatever scapegoat.
Can’t get a girlfriend? It’s women’s fault.
Can’t get a job? It’s illegal immigrants.
Can’t afford to do the things you like? It’s the government taking too many taxes.
Whatever problem someone has, they are looking to blame someone rather than make any changes in their own life.
- Comment on Why do radio stations all seem to go on commercial at the same time? 2 months ago:
Some baofangs even are sold with the ability to transmit locked out for ham frequencies now. They can still transmit in the frequencies that normal walkie talkies operate on though. I think they started using btech as the brand for the ham radio ones are now.
Was annoyed when I accidentally bought a few of those. But they’re only like $17.
- Comment on Why is DNS often joked about in the I.T. Industry? 2 months ago:
A records are usually fine for web dev, and some cname records. But if you move DNS to different name servers it doesn’t take the MX, srv, or txt with you.
Name servers are where all the DNS records are hosted. It tells every computer who is the authority on the information. If you change those without moving all the DNS records to the new location. All the old ones are no longer used at all. Even if they still exist on the old system.
Also spf records might also reference the websites a record to allow the website to send email without getting flagged as spam. If the site moves, but emails are still sent from the old IP address for a myriad of reasons it would break email. Like if they used some provider that hosted the site and emails on the same system, which used to be more common than it is today.
- Comment on Why is DNS often joked about in the I.T. Industry? 2 months ago:
Because so few understand it and so many things use it.
If you read a guide on setting up a website. They might have you change a DNS record and you might not realize it’s doing something else. Web developers frequently want to make changes to DNS and will change the name servers away to theirs but not migrate any of the records for anything besides the website. They’ll break EVERYTHING but hey, the website will load.
If you read a guide on connecting some service like hubspot. They will have you add spf records. But those need to be included with the existing ones and not just replacing what’s already there. Mess it up and every single email you send will get sent to spam folders.

In all my partners, it’s always been different. Some liked it when I was rough and threw them around. Others really enjoyed being eaten out. Almost all enjoyed fingering as foreplay. Some really, really enjoyed having their boobs played with. Another one wanted me to get angry and fuck her even when she said stop (she got really annoyed when I would listen to her and actually stop, but we were young and didn’t know what consensual non-consensual was, she didn’t tell me ahead of time, and we didn’t set up a safe word or establish the red-yellow-green system.)
The woman I am with now, really gets off from praise. She loves it when I encourage her to do what feels good for her, when I remind her how sexy she is, when I tell her how much of a good girl she is, and when I tell her I love her.
If you want a simple answer, the best I can say is to talk to the woman and find out what she enjoys and try that. Just remember that just because she enjoyed something with a precious partner doesn’t mean she will enjoy it with you. Sometimes you’ll meet a woman who doesn’t know what she likes. So try different things, encourage her to share any ideas or fantasies and try them. She might think something is sexy in her fantasy and find out it doesn’t live up to what she’s thinking.
Oh! And it can change from sexy-time to sexy-time. So pay attention to how she reacts and do what she enjoys that day.
- Comment on Why won't companies release old games or at least make very old ones free? 3 months ago:
Have you looked at the Nintendo store? It’s got tons of old games in there for the switch from various old consoles.
Playstation often has old games in its store, over half the psx library was for sale on the PSP and ps Vita.
- Comment on Why do so many people use NGINX? 3 months ago:
I learned nginx when I was hosting websites. I had it set up and running when it was time to add reverse proxies into my setup. It didn’t take much more from the virtual hosts I was already using.
Now, I don’t host many individual sites anymore and haproxy has a plugin on my firewall for the handful of services I run now.

- Comment on Why haven't car manufacturers standardized automatic brake lights when a built in accelerometer detects deceleration? 3 months ago:
The issue is with regenerative braking and single pedal operation of EVs. Many vehicles today will essentially brake if you aren’t on the accelerator.
Personally, I think it’s a gap in design/regulation. But not as simple as brake pedals.

- Comment on HDD or SSD for a home server? 3 months ago:
You can get an older model Samsung Evo 1tb SSD new for under $100. Those have been good drives for me.
You can probably find something to shuck used if you don’t care too much for reliability.
Regardless, get a second disk even something attached to your main PC to handle backups.
RPi are nice, but imo are getting expensive and if you aren’t using the i/o pins just not worth it. If I were to just start out again I’d pickup a used laptop. Higher specs than a RPi and built in battery backup.
- Comment on Do you poweroff your server during night / unused times? 3 months ago:
Yup. I run those kind of clusters. But unless your in home datacenter territory, that sort of config isn’t likely to happen in self hosted.
- Comment on Do you poweroff your server during night / unused times? 3 months ago:
Even physical hardware, if your paying power you can have clusters of physical hardware power up and down based on usage. There is no point in having 10 physical hosts running when the workload for n+1 means 3 servers overnight. With bnc, ipmi, ilo, idrac it will power them up as needed.
- Comment on Why do many search engines seem to ignore operators (e.g. exact phrases, term exclusions, OR, etc.)? Is there a good reason for having a dumb 1997-level search logic that I'm not seeing? 4 months ago:
No. The issue is websites are trash, not the crawlers. SEO has created a weird amalgamation of content, filler, and keywords. It’s why recipe sites have stories with every recipe.
Google very much is responsible for the current web design though.
