- Comment on Fairphone 5 schematics, repair, and recycling documentation is now available 9 months ago:
Seriously, I’m interested in one potentially as a Linux phone (I think the FP4 is supported) but I’m not about to fork money over to have a terrible experience.
- Comment on Samsung purposely knives customer's TV to weasel out of repair 9 months ago:
Went through warranty replacement for a TV and was simply asked to write “void” and a big X on the warranty sticker. Even had the option to give the almost perfectly fine TV away (I did to someone who greatly benefited from it)
- Comment on Report: Apple is testing foldable iPhones, having the same problems as everyone else 9 months ago:
Typing this on a fold4 would just like to chime in that after a year of ownership the inner screen did fail seemingly for no reason. I was able to get this fixed but I just want to stress they do have some problems.
Partner has gone through 3 flip4 in the same amount of time though that phone is garbage.
- Comment on Zoom is cutting about 150 jobs, or close to 2% of its workforce 9 months ago:
Oh hey their return to office demand wasn’t about productivity it was a soft layoff like everyone said wow.
- Comment on Elon Musk demands another huge payday from Tesla 10 months ago:
Here have the standard HR answer: sorry we don’t have the budget due to outside factors, also we’re doing layoffs in your department.

Just bring the Honda-e over here ffs.
- Comment on Google maps adding sponsored detours 10 months ago:
I like osmand for off-grid motorcycle type stuff but I’ve found it to be somewhat useless for final mile navigation especially ironically in the city. I still use it as it’s awesome and allows pre-planned offline routes but I also still use gmaps as well. When I drove trucks for a living I found that the Garmin (truck specific but buy what you need) GPS to be quite amazing and will probably buy one of those for my car someday.
- Comment on Adobe warns it may face massive fines for subscription rules 11 months ago:
Realize this but my companies solution was to just print that version and scan back in the resulting version which cannot be undone. Stupid and wastful but saved us from buying a ton of Adobe licenses.
- Comment on Adobe warns it may face massive fines for subscription rules 11 months ago:
Adobe acrobat has 3 tiers Free which is useless Acrobat which has 90% of everything you’ll ever need except for that one time you’ll need to censor a portion of the document which is only available in
Acrobat pro which is another 10$ a month on top of regular acrobat (20$ a month) and offers literally 2 extra features that previously were not separated.
Or you can change the highlighter to black and use that instead.
Fuck Adobe.
- Comment on Are any self-cleaning cat litter boxes any good, or worth the money? 11 months ago:
3 cats with a litter robot 3 after 3 years. It’s great, easy to repair and parts are available. Save your money and buy a litter bot 3. The 4 has some improvements (it’s quieter) but has some new flaws and a pretty stiff price increase.
Also check out one man six cats on YouTube who has been doing a litter bot mega test of all kinds of brands/styles with his 7 (yes 7) cats.
- Comment on EV battery swaps will be tested with the Fiat 500e in 2024 11 months ago:
I have the original 500e (ya know the one with “80” miles of range) they’re quite popular and very useful day to day. I agree the new 500e is too expensive but I think the range is fine…also the original 500e was about the same price but these days dirt cheap.
Back to the topic at hand: Fuck battery swaps, it’s a bad idea with good intentions and that’s why it keeps failing except for PEV (personal electric vehicles) such as mopeds/ebikes.
- Comment on Microsoft Will Charge for Windows 10 Security Updates in 2025 11 months ago:
I’m glad you think you know what happened. I’m happy to say you don’t. I’m also not going to bother replying as the whole point of my original post is that it happened and I no longer use Windows.
For what it’s worth I too do this for a living :)
- Comment on Microsoft Will Charge for Windows 10 Security Updates in 2025 11 months ago:
I actually went from 10 to a debloated 11 but found the lack of things like…printer drivers to be annoying.
- Comment on Microsoft Will Charge for Windows 10 Security Updates in 2025 11 months ago:
Yeah I have too and it’s these games I get tired of. In this case I lost data, it’s the first time that’s ever happened and it 100% was caused by a problem with explorer.exe.
Before anyone asked, I didn’t have a backup of this data as it was deemed not important which it was not, but it was the last straw for me.
- Comment on Microsoft Will Charge for Windows 10 Security Updates in 2025 11 months ago:
Lol fortunately I’m not much of a gamer, little sad that BG3 seems kinda broken on Linux right now but I’ll live.
- Comment on Microsoft Will Charge for Windows 10 Security Updates in 2025 11 months ago:
I’m glad you think that, but in my case it definitely did.
- Comment on Microsoft Will Charge for Windows 10 Security Updates in 2025 11 months ago:
I use 11 for work, and so I tried it at home to really dive into the issues I might have. I generally prefer Linux but have always kept my daily drivers Windows…well until last Friday. I had the explorer shell crash on me causing data loss and really was the last straw. Wiped everything and went to Linux, I’m tired of the games Microsoft. I tolerated your bullshit for YEARS because the core of the OS usually “just worked”…except in recent years that’s not true and I don’t feel like my computer is “my computer” when windows 10+ is on it.

As a 27 year old who used to love Roblox you probably made the right decision. It’s no longer a good platform.

Soooo when do we (speaking for several generations here) get the boomer pay? I know several boomer desk jockeys doing fuck all and making healthy 6 figure salaries.
- Comment on GTA 6 publisher CEO thinks videogame prices are "very, very low" for what they offer 1 year ago:
This happened to a very expensive game I bought years ago. Tried it again after a couple years break and found several things locked behind dlc that previously were part of the main game.
Assetto Corsa if you’re curious. Mostly cars getting locked but the worst part is they’re locked by brand so I’d still have to buy multiple dlcs to play with the 2-3 cars I enjoyed. Game was originally a full $60 game.

Fortunately no but I’ve gone ahead and blocked you :)
Remember you’re on the fediverse, which is a FOSS version of social media…self hosted by Linux nerds. You’re pretty much in our territory.
Seriously though, give it a try…you’ll be surprised how much it “just works”* and how terrible windows is once the tinted glasses are removed.

- Comment on Baldur's Gate 3 dev shows off the level of optimization achieved for the Xbox Series S port, which bodes well for future PC updates 1 year ago:
I’ve been playing bg3 in nearly max settings at 4k on a RX6700 and it’s been nearly flawless. I noticed a bunch of people commenting about higher end 30 series cards, does the game struggle on those?
The biggest issue I’ve found is the cpu usage. Especially in the city of BG I’ll see 8+ cpu cores really getting a workout.
- Comment on Tesla Vision fails as owners complain of Model 3 cameras fogging up in cold weather 1 year ago:
What irks me about this is I own an ev (not a Tesla obviously fiat 500e) and I slog/bash that thing through mud/snow/rain/several inches of water on the regular and even do what id consider rally driving with it at times and it’s fine. You know why? Because this was always a Tesla engineering failure and not an ev failure. But it sucks because people will think ev= unable to get wet which just is not true.
- Comment on BP buys $100 million worth of Tesla chargers 1 year ago:
In my case I have a tiny ev and just kinda pay attention to charge networks suddenly popping up and I’ll check to see if they’re public. At most stock trading is a very small hobby for me and sometimes it makes a tiny amount of money.
- Comment on Sodium batteries offer an alternative to tricky lithium 1 year ago:
Early smart fortwo EV had a sodium battery. On the topic of flammability it’s worth noting that LifePo4 is also non flammable and has higher durability than li-ion while also not having the same toxic metals in addition to lithium.
In the past the challenge with sodium batteries was keeping them warm enough to actually work.
- Comment on America is so great we privatized taxes 1 year ago:
So nearly 300$ a month for…what exactly? To be denied life saving treatment?
- Comment on BP buys $100 million worth of Tesla chargers 1 year ago:
I’ve been buying stock (small amounts) of small charging networks because I’ve found they frequently get bought up by oil companies for far more than the stock is usually worth. Sometimes they’re used for green washing and sometimes they’re improved upon but at least I made a little money.
A network called “Volta” got bought by Shell which kinda sucks because they’re the most popular public L2 charger around here, so far nearly a year later they’re still in operation.
- Comment on Honda says making cheap electric vehicles is too hard, ends deal with GM 1 year ago:
I either charge at home, or at work, or if there happens to be a charger at my destination but I’m almost never waiting to charge.
I’ve frequently had to wait for a pump or had to go out of my way to get to a working pump. Gas pumps don’t work when the power goes out but batteries stay charged. I’ve actually had to load up my gas generator in my ev to drive 2 towns over during a power outage to get fuel…to keep my pets alive. Car only had about 30% charge to start and roughly 22% when I was back. Generator had 0 gas to start (had just run through my old gas) and was full when I got back…also the power decided to come back on which began refueling my ev.
- Comment on Honda says making cheap electric vehicles is too hard, ends deal with GM 1 year ago:
Am in Texas (Dallas area) I commute 33 miles each way in an electric Fiat 500. I actually do feel plenty safe (car is insanely stable but also far safer than my other commuter which is a klr650 motorcycle) but do have issues with road rage. I legitly don’t care if someone hits me in this car as it wouldn’t be the first time and I have full confidence I’ll be safe…on the other hand I don’t appreciate how unsafe large vehicles tend to be nor how difficult they can make visibility.
I used to drive semi trucks for a living and I’d personally pick the Fiat over the Freightliner every time.
