The “This one neat trick big water won’t tell you about” to “the government can’t tell me not to dig my well next to my latrine” pipeline (aquaduct?) is real.

Can push California to 5 syllables if you really want to.
- Comment on What's a good method for a non-technical person to short the terminals of two 0402 resistors ~1mm apart? 1 month ago:
My point is, for about the cost of an easy solution (that, frankly is a lot harder to undo if done wrong) you could equip them to do it right, practice the skill you want to inspire and not plant the false idea that soldering is some difficult thing that the beginner should avoid.

You can get conductive adhesives but it would probably be cheaper to just include a soldering iron in the kit… I’m not sure I would be confident in getting good contact with self adhesive metal tape, your best option there is to probably get a small amount and experiment.

Imagine making an AI to be your friend and it still hates you. (I presume, given the current state of the right and twitter Grok might not think it is a bad thing.)
- Comment on We keep running into LLMs that are pretending to be people, but I bet there are a handful of people out there pretending to be LLMs. 3 months ago:
Honestly I think a lot of what is held up as AI authored is just written by human hacks. It learned it’s bad writing by reading us.

Why did you, personally, leave Reddit?

I’d be surprised if I’m the first person to say it. If you find your source though, let me know, would be interested in reading it.

It is (I hope) an original. Though the form “my grandfather would tell stories” might be bordering on cliché.
- Comment on Kids 3 months ago:
My grandfather would tell stories of how the planet used to be covered in plants and you could breathe the air outside. Back when the sky was blue.

It’s not just the discomfort it causes to the user, it’s how high quality, non-dissolving paper fucks the sewer system for everyone.

More accurately a superposition of both.
- Comment on the ologies don't like to talk about theo 6 months ago:
I’m talking about natures rather than labels though. Or does God only have the definitions humans ascribe to him?
- Comment on the ologies don't like to talk about theo 6 months ago:
So does that mean Jesus wasn’t human?
- Comment on the ologies don't like to talk about theo 6 months ago:
But is God the Incarnate wholly God-nature, or is he partly God-nature and partly man-nature?

They aren’t legal combatants, it’s all fine.
- Comment on How is the hydrogen made? 7 months ago:
I think the issue is where the energy to heat the reaction vessel comes from. The video shows green sources, but that isn’t the only way to do it. The thing is, this is ultimately an energy storage tech rather than an energy generation tech. You need excess capacity to make it work, and if that means you have to make up for a shortful with conventional generators elsewhere, you aren’t actually saving anything.
I don’t know if the previous poster is right of course, but the planet is an almost closed system, and there really is no such thing as a free lunch when it comes to energy.
- Comment on How does South Park get away with trashing identifiable people? Are they sued often? 7 months ago:
There comes an issue when a private citizen seeks to use the engines of state to punish those whose speech offends them.
It’s one thing to withdraw society and business from someone who offends you, quite another to demand that the state crush them for you. Of course, most states will do that to a greater or lesser degree. No state extends an absolute freedom of speech.

I suspect they will graciously provide the necessities in return for your labour and any remaining rights you have.
Take a look at how company stores and scrip worked. As the song goes, Saint Peter don’t call me 'cause I can’t go/Sold my soul to the company store.
- Comment on Amazon's Hidden Chatbot Recommends Nazi Books and Lies About Amazon Working Conditions 8 months ago:
I always feel sad with these kinds of stories. The machine is clearly just trying to be helpful but it doesn’t understand a thing about what it is doing or why we might find what it is saying repugnant. It’s like watching a dog not understanding that yes, we like our slippers, but we don’t want our neighbours swastika themed ones on our doorstep.
And then of course we get to the content and I am reminded that we live in hell and the sadness is replaced by the familiar horror as the machine pretends to empathise with its fellow Amazon workers and helps them pick out the ideal thing to piss in without missing their drop targets.
- Comment on If we can use hydrogen to power electric motors, why can’t we use water to run a car? 9 months ago:
“Hydrogen powered” generally means burning hydrogen in oxygen to make water: 2(HH) + OO -> 2(HHO). To run a car on water as you say is a lot like trying to make a fire out of ash, rather than wood. You can’t burn the ash because it has already been burned.

- Comment on What does cigarette smoking do for people? 1 year ago:
Nicotine (the main active ingredient in tobacco) is a mild stimulant. It can help people relax or focus better. You can also get a bit of a headshot if you smoke intensely
There are also cultural benefits. Hanging out informally with others, especially at work can be useful. A 10 min informal tea break every now and again would be better but that’s the world we have got in many workplaces.
