Yea, last time I tired, you have to connect to its personal wifi hotspot and download them via the app. It’s so backwards!
- Comment on Surprised no one has noticed yet 3 weeks ago:
I don’t think either should be banned. We just need data protection laws. The government going after single companies sets a dangerous precedent.
What the EU did with some of their compliance laws that targeted Google and Apple was set a number of users, so it wasn’t necessarily targeting a single or set company, as it applied to future companies too.
- Comment on Discord began blocking servers with information prohibited in the Russian Federation 2 months ago:
Do you not know how to properly search in discord? Sure forums are better but a message in discord isn’t “gone forever” if you’re searching. It’s a pretty fast to search too, which is an insanely impressive feat due to the sheer amount of messages.
- Comment on FLOSS communities right now 3 months ago:
Come on. That’s not even close to the amount of data that TikTok collects. TikTok needs to know how long you spend on EVERY video so it can recommend more like that. TikTok records EVERY interaction and time associated.

How the heck slack better or even have any more features than discord? Discord saves all history. Discord has threads that are easier to find than slack threads. Discord voice channels let you just hop in. Discord lets you direct reply.
I use slack for work, but Discord is great for what it is. The search is amazing.

Also finsexual. They’re pretty much synonymous.
- Comment on GM Reverses All-In EV Strategy to Bring Back Plug-In Hybrids 3 months ago:
Yea, that’s not how the older Model 3 works. I wish they weren’t doing that. The blinker and shifter stalk are so easy.
- Comment on GM Reverses All-In EV Strategy to Bring Back Plug-In Hybrids 3 months ago:
With the Tesla Model 3, most things you need are on the steering wheel anyways. Volume, cruise, skip, follow distance, answer calls, etc. but there is a big infotainment system for everything else. I don’t mind it because I love the customization of where my buttons are rather than the crappy default of however the manufacturer sets up the buttons.
- Comment on Veteran Videogame Analyst: Subscription growth has flattened [in video games] 3 months ago:
For single player games, or multiplayer games where there’s not a bigger progression system, yes, I 100% agree.
But sometimes this is necessary, like with an MMO. You’re paying for access to unlimited server time for that period (typically month or year).

I still need to put in the work to sub to all the alternatives. I had hundreds of subs and my front page was so curated. But now on Lemmy, I tried Hot for new/fresh content, but I have to browse Active most of the time due to the amount of just single up vote posts on Hot.
I just wish we had more people. I’m doing my part of being active though!
- Comment on AppleTV complete replacement opinions 4 months ago:
Huh? Use the remote app on your phone. It automatically pops up like a notification when there’s a text box on the screen. So easy. You can turn the box off by holding the power button for a few seconds. To close apps, you double tap the TV button and then it’s an iOS like interface that you scroll over and swipe up on the ones you want to close.
The UI is very minimal and the same across most all apps, so it’s easy to learn and use. It may be missing some power features, but most things are accessed via clicking of just holding.
- Comment on Our Chevy Blazer EV Has 23 Problems After Only 2 Months 4 months ago:
I’m not sure how many it has, but is only for 4 hours. If you have charging at home, it’s too much hassle to charge at work and fight the crowd. It’s for people that need it. And charging for 4 hours on 240v 40a will be 48kWh, which is 144 miles. You only need that every few days. But it is a huge parking garage in the city. It can definitely handle 200 EVs charging if they wire it up right.
I’ve only had an EV for 2.5 years. It just works. It’s good and reliable. It’s not “let’s wait”time anymore. I’ve driven to the country in Canada and camped in the heat with my AC and made it back to a charging station. They’re everywhere now. It’s not 2015 anymore.
The price does need to come down still though.
- Comment on Our Chevy Blazer EV Has 23 Problems After Only 2 Months 4 months ago:
True. But the coolant is for the battery, not for a combustion engine that is constantly hot, so it’s hardly ever changed. I use 120v at my apartment to charge. It gets me about 5 miles per hour. Because I live in a city, I’m not driving all the time, it works for me. I see people using extension cord across the sidewalk on my way to work. Our city, Seattle, is building charging infrastructure. Most work garages have chargers, so it’s still charging at work.
There are still less moving parts than an ICE though, meaning there is less to go wrong. An electric motor isn’t running from friction like many parts of an ICE.
An EV isn’t for everyone, but it will work for most people once the price comes down.
- Comment on Our Chevy Blazer EV Has 23 Problems After Only 2 Months 4 months ago:
You have less moving parts so there’s also no replacing fuses, coolant, belts, etc.
- Comment on Our Chevy Blazer EV Has 23 Problems After Only 2 Months 4 months ago:
Yep. I’ve had my few issues, but there has been way less maintenance.
- Comment on Our Chevy Blazer EV Has 23 Problems After Only 2 Months 4 months ago:
Yep. That’s why I got a Tesla in 2018. It really can go anywhere in the country.
- Comment on Our Chevy Blazer EV Has 23 Problems After Only 2 Months 4 months ago:
The USA does not have train or bus infrastructure. We looked at it but it would take weeks to get home on a train. It’s just not viable, but I wish it was. I take the bus in the city I live in almost anytime I can.
I have driven from Mississippi to Washington when I’ve moved and I’ve driven from MS to Denver during COVID to see friends (we did the whole 2 week quarantine before and took many precautions). I am driving back to see family for the holidays because flying is 2x the price plus dog boarding. We’re bringing our dog so we don’t have to pay the $700+ to do that.
For CO2 emissions: flying 2,000 miles both ways would be 1.2 metric tons of CO2 per passenger (using an online tool I found). We are driving 2,500 miles both ways, and having an extra passenger makes it more efficient per passenger. So for 2 passengers, 5,000 miles in a Tesla is 1 metric ton of CO2 total, which is 0.5/passenger, over half of what flying would do. Sure, I could just not go see my grandpa who has been struggling to breathe and in pain almost daily, but I haven’t seen my family in 2 years, and I miss them.
- Comment on Our Chevy Blazer EV Has 23 Problems After Only 2 Months 4 months ago:
This is not normal for EVs. The only real problems I’ve had with my Tesla model 3 since 2018 was some paint issues and a sticky blinker, which they came to my work and replaced.
It’s sucks that all these companies seem to be trying to screw over their EVs when they are vastly better. I’ve traveled all over the US in mine. I’m currently on another cross country road trip and the charging system just works. 1,300 miles in 24 hours with charging for the first day. Without stopping at all, that’s still a 19.5h drive.
- Comment on Tesla removes Disney+ app amid Elon Musk's feud with Disney CEO Bob Iger 4 months ago:
It’s just a full screen browser. You can get it for any website. There’s a simple work around that’s been there for years that uses a YouTube URL to force full screen but then redirects to Google. Then you can just go to Disney. It’s really not that big of a deal.

There’s a camera in the cabin that faces the driver. It’s above the rear view mirror. It does also feel the weight of your hand on the wheel and gets mad if that’s missing.
- Comment on Tesla claims California false-advertising law violates First Amendment 5 months ago:
Definitely not refuting the point. Just noting that it’s very aggressive in making sure you’re watching the road. I can’t even look at the screen where the map is for too long or it gives me a warning beep.
- Comment on Tesla claims California false-advertising law violates First Amendment 5 months ago:
If you take your eyes off the road for more than 3-5 seconds (depending on speed), it beeps at you. Doing this 3 times in about 5 mins will lock you out of the system and give you a strike. 5 strikes in about 6-9 months, you lose access to the “self driving”.
It’s way more aggressive than it used to be at least.
- Comment on Amazon's strict return-to-office policy is pushing more employees into quitting 5 months ago:
People are staying because the job market is currently cold, especially in tech right now. Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, etc are all on a hiring freeze or at least a very slow hiring rate.
However, you better bet that for the 3 days required by me, I’m only going into the office for only 2-4 hours. Showing up around 11/12 and leaving around 2/3. I’ll actually be able to work after I get home.
- Comment on Why do it 5 months ago:
To his credit, this was the only found bit of plagiarism on his channel. The other channels he calls out are wayyyy worse. But it’s blatant word for word plagiarism.
- Comment on Amazon exec says it’s time for RTO: ‘I don’t have data to back it up, but I know it’s better’ 5 months ago:
Yep. There have been so many people having backbone since this was announced in January. The remote-advocacy slack channel is the third largest opt in channel (pay-equity is the largest opt in, with people posting their salaries anonymously). There have been many protests and many people pushing back.
It’s all about the money to these corporate execs. Tax cuts, real estate value, parking lot payments, etc.
I will say that working in the office with others on your team has benefits. However, I’m not working with my team directly for 3 days a week. We could do a couple design days a few days a month or even a full week a few times a quarter and that would cover the bases. Half my team is on the other side of the US anyways.

- Comment on Not even the ghost of obsolescence can coerce users onto Windows 11 7 months ago:
It parses the damage this way. It’s for people who don’t want to use plugins in the game as it doesn’t mess with the game at all. It’s against TOS, but no one cares as long as you don’t talk about it in game. And since a lot of people use this and fewer people use plugins, it’s better supported and will work on launch days most of the time.
There’s also another plugin that does this too for crafting so you know what you have in what inventories, making it quicker to gather and craft stuff.
It’s just easier to capture and parse packets than to put a whole plugin in the game. Plugins are getting better but they do take some time after a patch to get updated to be stable.
