Only reserve IPs that are outside of the DHCP range you’ve configured.

- Comment on Do you prefer to buy games on Steam or GOG? 2 months ago:
I buy multiplayer games on steam since that’s where my friends are. I pirate almost everything else unless I want to support the developer (typically small indie games or high quality stuff like FromSoft). If I buy a game, I do prefer GOG but steam can be convenient, especially on Linux.
- Comment on There is a trove of flash animation that is completely lost to history 3 months ago:
There are huge archives of flash animations and you can install a safe “emulator” for playing flash that even runs in your browser. Look up Ruffle. I can’t remember the name of the big archive site I used, but it didn’t take much googling. I know I was able to find Homestar, Larry Carlson, Adam Phillips (bitey), joe cartoon and salad fingers as well as a ton of games from back in the day.

Airsonic Advanced and DSUB on Android are pretty good options since DSUB has advanced local caching options.
I aquire my music then run it through Picard for tagging which places it into my NAS where it is mounted to airsonic and jellyfin containers for consumption.
The jellyfin apps have gotten a lot better and I find myself using feishin and finamp more often lately.
- Comment on Why don't we hear more about the 2017 Las Vegas shooting? It was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, we never found a motive, and it seems no one ever mentions it. 8 months ago:
My theory is that the fuckwad was involved in CSAM in some big way because his brother was arrested for it right around the same time as the shooting.
My guess is that the FBI has some reason not to tie them together yet.

Turns out the dude was likely involved with CSAM, as his brother was arrested for it almost immediately after the shooting.
From what I’ve seen, his brother was one of the only people still in touch with him during his last days.

It’s because of what you said: no motive. Crime like this is only sensational when the motive can be applied to some fictional stereotype of villain that could be stopped by new legislation or a war or whatever.
Also I think a big reason we don’t discuss this specific event is the caliber of rifle used. Contrary to popular belief, non “assault” weapons can do a shocking amount of damage in an environment where the targets can’t retaliate. See the Virginia Tech shooting.
Long story short: if it ain’t political and can’t be made political, people in the US won’t care for long.
- Comment on Where are the good political songs? 9 months ago:
Stand Out Riot is an incredible ska/hardcore band with mostly political lyrics. They are from UK so I don’t get all of the references, but they are fucking awesome anyway.

I have a short story that perfectly exemplifies the problems with Google and the Internet in general.
I dropped a melatonin gummy on the floor near my dog, and then I couldn’t find it (he didn’t eat it, it rolled under the couch). So I did what anyone would do, and googled “my dog ate melatonin”.
The first result was an article that said “melatonin is perfectly safe for dogs to eat, no worries!”. Whew! Coast is clear! I wiped the nervous sweat from my brow and felt my panic melt away…
But just as I was about to close Google, I see that the second result states clearly “melatonin is toxic for dogs, your dog is gonna die and it’s your fault. Call the vet now!”. (I exaggerate, but it definitely said toxic and to call emergency vet services). Panic resumes, sweat returns.
Dude… What the fuck am I supposed to do in that situation? Both of the articles seemed like they were legit and yet had wildly different messages.
Thankfully I found the gummy a few minutes later and didn’t end up at the emergency vet, but it was a confusing and concerning situation.
This doesn’t even bring up the garbage AI generated content that is now 9 out of 10 top results from Google. If you don’t want that shit, and want something written by a human being, you basically have to put “Reddit” in your query… And I think I know how most of us here feel about Reddit…
- Comment on We have had guns for 200 years but mass shootings only became common in the last 30. So what changed? 1 year ago:
This is simply wrong. Many of the worst mass shootings in the last decade were committed with low power rifles and handguns. I’m actually pretty sure the two worst mass shootings (by count of those who were killed) in the US were done using .22 ammunition. Those weapons were not covered by whatever ban you’re talking about
It’s not about “assault weapons” and it’s not even about guns. It’s about the inability of our government to pass meaningful legislation around gun ownership and mental health and especially where those two topics intersect
The problem is that human suffering is normalized because the wealthy political class and those who fund them are not going to let things change for the better if it means less money for them.
