- Comment on Maybe all this AI bullshit might finally push people to touch grass and interact face to face some more 4 weeks ago:
The argument being made is: “AI is currently slop but there is a reasonable expectation that it will be pushed until it is indistinguishable from human work, and therefore devaluing of human work.”
I don’t like AI because it’s just another way that “corporate gonna corporate” and it never ends up working out for the mere mortals’ benefit. Also, misinformation is already so prevalent and it’s going to continue to get worse (we have seen this already–trump abuses it continually).

I work in a PC repair shop and I run my tool stick on this way.
- Acronis (can clone to reduced size drives unlike clonezilla which can only clone to equal or bigger)
- MemTest86 & MemTest86+ (+ is the FOSS one. Recommend both because sometimes one won’t work)
- Don’t forget that you can put other stuff in a Ventoy, not just .isos. I have shitlods of utilities in a folder beside all the .isos.
- Tons more but I just woke up for work. I will make this list much longer when I get there of I can remember to
- Comment on I think I am socially ostrasized, what should I do? 2 months ago:
Might be time to do a little research my friend.
The extremely oversimplified and short version of it is, a trauma mask is something that kicks in automatically to protect you. Autistic masking is a form of trauma masking and it is fully automatic and usually not known to the person that they are doing it. We learn the skills to get through most normal social situations, but beyond that there is little development. So we do all the neurotypical things to blend in and it works until people realize that it’s fake, and then they feel like they’ve been deceived and they don’t like us.
The fix for this is, as you go on a journey of self-discovery and learn how to stop masking you will present yourself as your authentic self, and attract the right kind of friends. It is a difficult journey, and especially because almost always we don’t realize that we’re doing it at all. I don’t know if you believe that your neurodivergent or autistic, but I also believe that there are other neurotypes that are able to trauma mask similarly to autistic masking. You may find good company in an autistic community because they will understand how that works. There’s also something oddly comforting knowing that you’re in a group of “weird” people and it will help you get your real self out.
- Comment on I think I am socially ostrasized, what should I do? 2 months ago:
If you’re autistic, there’s a good chance that autistic masking is the root cause here. If you have social anxiety especially, your mask will kick in automatically (subconsciously) and come off as fake to most people, and they will not like you for it. A quick test for this is, are you good at making a good first impression or short time of friendship and then it kinda falls off with time? If yes, masking is likely in play. I highly recommend the book Unmasking Autism even if you’re not autistic. It applies to others as well and it is excellent.
The short term (maybe long term…?) solution is to make autistic friends. They’ll understand “the weird” and it should be much simpler. Try searching around your local area for autism or neurodivergent clubs and see how you feel around other similarly-minded people.

My first thought as well. I this autistic masking would be more suitable here but technically both could work.
That said, there’s a lot of great ideas in this thread.

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about having a non-p. I’d bet the extra battery life would be worth the slight hit to performance.
And yeah, Thinkpads are tanks, and I appreciates that about them.

Sure thing! So Lenovo has the PSREF library which is awesome about old hardware specs, so you can always look up what you could have got in your machine back when they were new.
Here’s a link to the .PDF for your T440.
One of the reasons I like Thinkpads so much is the support of the community with mods, parts and so on. Feel free to hmu if you need Thinkpad help lol.

So I don’t have a direct answer about vanilla/s/p board compatibility but my question for you is, why not just get a T440 board? They can be had on eBay for $80-100 USD and will drop in. You can get up to an i7-4600U, which is more than fine for daily computing with an SSD and at least 16GB of DDR3-1600.

Jumping in, I also have a lot of BPD experience (example, a marriage of well over 10 years).
This is very BPD-adjacent. I’m not saying OP’s gf has it per se, because there is no way we can know from here, but this is definitely on brand.
If you read between the lines, the social conversation could written as this:
“Heading home, I need support”
“I’ll support”
<Doesn’t support>
<She feels abandoned, fight or flight kicks in and it turns her attachment-avoidant, results in silent treatment>
<OP gives space, which is interpreted as further abandonment>
<OPGF can’t take it anymore, and asks questions that feel like they’re out of left field because in fight-or-flight kicks in, clear thought is nearly impossible>
<OP finally gives reassurance that he didn’t abandon her>
<Normalcy continues>

Ok well if you are neurodivergent, a couple things:
Autism self diagnosis is valid if you do your research. University of WA recently did a study that figured that out.
ADHD typically needs a diagnosis from a professional to be sure, but it’s not super hard to guess if you have it. Some symptoms of ADHD can be caused by other conditions (anxiety especially) so navigate that one with caution.
If you are neurodivergent, typically the answer is routines rather than habits. I find them much easier to implement. Just decide the task you want to make into a routine, decide the steps you want to do it in, and then decide to always do it that way, or at least until you want to optimize or tweak it. A simple routine I do is “keys, wallet, phone, ear buds” while tapping my pockets on the way out of the door.

Not sure if you are per se, but this is a commonly felt sentiment in the neurodivergent community. Especially ADHD and Autistic peeps.

I’m autistic and have much better luck finding “plain” conversation with other autistic people. No idea I’d you are or aren’t but you’ll welcome to join the community of you aren’t a bullshitter.
It can be a little weird to get used to because the whole world lies, but man, is it refreshing once you do and have the trust/rapport to just speak plainly with friends.

“To be autistic is to be misunderstood”
I have ASD and I have historically worried about the same thing, as has my sister. From the outside ASD and psychopathy can look similar to untrained eyes. The biggest “tell” is how you feel (or dont feel) inside.
I recommend looking into Autistic Masking to see if that explains the “alter ego” you seemed to describe earlier.
While you’re researching this, I will tell you that autism is probably the one thing where you will have better luck listening/talking to other autistic people than to just read data from something like the DSM-5. There are a lot of YouTube people with various profiles of autism and I have had far better luck learning from them and an autistic friend than anything clinical.
There are also different profiles of ASD. The main ones are:
- Classic Autism
- Asperger’s (now called HFA or High Functioning Autism, but there is still a LOT of info out there from when it was still called Asperger’s)
- PDA or Pathological Demand Avoidance So be sure to check out all of them before thinking you aren’t just because one doesn’t fit. I thought I wasn’t autistic for YEARS because I did not know the right profile.
Long story short, ASD is HUGE and largely not understood. If you have questions, shoot me a message. As you look around, I’m sure you’ll learn about Autistic Special Interests. Psychology and especially ASD are mine, so I’m happy to
rantteach about it forever.Good luck in your journey!

Silicon is never going to be serviceable or upgradeable and there’s no chance of all that happening out of good will. Look up what goes into making a Fab (Intel has some tour videos).
These aren’t the things that people “with the skills” show up for. It takes a lifetime of studying for some of the layers of these topics, not to mention collaboration between the others (or even finding them, if only the hospitals and emergency services would have access to computers, and therefore professional networking and email).
There are some truly awful jobs on this planet. Look up how sulfur is collected. People literally climb into volcanos to chip it off the walls and carry up sometimes 200lbs on their backs. One trip on that pumice and you’re toast.
People need incentives, and with no money, there would be a power vacuum…for another kind of money. I’m not saying capitalism is great or anything, don’t get me wrong. But you can’t just get rid of money.

Consider looking into what was formerly called Asperger’s. I resonate strongly with what you’re saying and recently found out in my 30s, that I’m autistic. I have a good sense of humor and decent social skills so I never even thought to check, but 1) turns out I knew jack shit about what autism actually is, and 2) the ADHD was actually hiding quite a bit of it. If you have questions or want resources feel free to dm me.
