- Comment on Linus Torvalds affirms expulsion of Russian maintainers 2 months ago:
I think many racists do in fact say Native Americans are throwing racist tantrums when they work towards gaining even the most basic of human rights.
- Comment on Linus Torvalds affirms expulsion of Russian maintainers 2 months ago:
I mean, that’s like calling a Native American racist for disliking European (white) Americans. Like sure, technically, but aren’t there some underlying issues at play that make the feeling more justified.
- Comment on Where can I report mod abuse? 3 months ago:
It should still show up in your comment history right? Why did they say you were being horrifically rude?
- Comment on After seeing Wi-Fi network named “STINKY,” Navy found hidden Starlink dish on US warship 3 months ago:
I think it’d be more for obfuscation than completely hiding it. As long as there are other hidden networks on the ship you just name it something generic that blends in. I mean this whole thing is a really stupid idea, but naming it something like “COM.NAB_ISO:4133” would draw less attention.
- Comment on When EV startups shut down, will their cars still work? 4 months ago:
I don’t think a Haltech ECU would pass inspection in most US states. I’ve had trouble getting my golf inspected with just a cat and a flash tune. There are emissions readiness monitors in most stock ECUs that need to show up for it to pass. The exhaust and tune i have aren’t even sold anymore because of the increasing number of legal restrictions. I get why it has to be that way but it does suck for people who want to work on their car.
- Comment on Infamous $30 Logitech F710 called out in $50M lawsuit over Titan sub implosion 4 months ago:
The problem was that if they surfaced away from the support vessel, there was no way to open it to get fresh air. So you could still run out of oxygen and die while floating around on the surface waiting to be found.
- Comment on NASA and Boeing say Starliner astronauts ‘are not stranded,’ but will be on the ISS for a few more weeks 5 months ago:
Common mistake, AirTags don’t work in space because there is no air.
- Comment on FCC proposes ending cellphone carrier locks after 60 days 6 months ago:
I’m the only person I know who buys their phones unlocked. I think a lot of people rely on the store where they buy the phone to set it up and get all their stuff transfered over. Just getting a new phone in the mail is a recipe for disaster for like a solid 60% of the US population.
- Comment on [Gamers Nexus] "Google is Getting Worse," ft. Wendell of Level1 Techs 6 months ago:
I recently started using Tresorit, E2E encrypted cloud storage, owned by the swiss post, only downside I can find is price. I haven’t used it long enough to really be able to recommend, but there aren’t a ton of options out there.
- Comment on Tesla is recalling its Cybertruck for the fourth time to fix problems with trim pieces that can come loose and front windshield wipers that can fail | The new recalls each affect over 11,000 trucks 6 months ago:
I mean most of the issues have been from the assembly process and not the fundamental design. However I would argue designing something you can’t reliably assemble is just as bad. Adhesive needs to be done right on every unit and it’s impossible to visually inspect it in this application. Clips are a pain in the ass but I’ll take them over glued on trim any day of the week.
- Comment on How to make an EV tire that won’t pollute the environment 6 months ago:
No it’s not, because conservatives don’t think micro plastics are a problem. Pretty soon there will be truck bros making tiktoks competing to see how quickly they can destroy a set of tires just to “trigger the libs”.
- Comment on Mercedes becomes the first automaker to sell autonomous cars in the U.S. that don't come with a requirement that drivers watch the road 8 months ago:
No… it means they’re confident enough to assume the risk, Tesla is not. They’ve been using their tech in europe for a while now without issue, Teslas meanwhile still love to hit a variety of new and exciting objects.
- Comment on USB hubs, printers, Java, and more seemingly broken by macOS 14.4 update 9 months ago:
I mean XP didn’t hit EOL until 2019 so you might have another 15 years of security patches left on 10.
- Comment on Google Will Now Back Right-to-Repair 11 months ago:
The 8 pro screen kit is $236 which is lot more reasonable. I just have a hard time believing the inner screen is really half the cost of the phone. I imagine supply is tight and they want to keep people from buying all of them to flip on ebay for like double the price.
- Comment on Google Will Now Back Right-to-Repair 11 months ago:
They made a big deal of being the first manufacturer to officially offer parts through ifixit, but a replacement kit for the internal display on the Pixel Fold is over $900 USD. It’s almost the same price as a brand new 512 GB Pixel 8 Pro, but that will have a warranty and is guaranteed to be waterproof, unlike a repaired phone.

And just reading about it doesn’t either… being informed is important but letting negativity consume your world view isn’t healthy or productive, it’s just angsty.
- Comment on Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout 1 year ago:
I don’t think the vast emptiness that is the US translates well to the UK. By area, New Mexico is almost the exact same size as the british isles, and it’s only the 5th largest state. I’ve done 400+ miles in a single day of driving many times. The furthest I’ve driven in a day was close to 800 miles.

Honestly all value is relative, even the gold standard is fairly arbitrary. If you’re stuck in the desert with 100kg of gold bars you’d trade them for a gallon of water in a heart beat. That’s basically how the american healthcare system works lol.

Lol ferrari took away Steve Wyns Las Vegas dealership because he flipped his LaFerrari for an extra million. I will never not find that hillarious.

I mean it doesn’t matter if the house around the wiring falls apart first. Most modern construction is like one step above paper mache.
- Comment on 8GB RAM in M3 MacBook Pro Proves the Bottleneck in Real-World Tests 1 year ago:
My exeperience is lot of people just want an ipad they can type on. The m2 air is basically the same size and weight as an ipad pro, and the screen is more protected if you carry it in a backpack. It’s also probably cheaper, especially if you want any of the accessories that make it “pro” ipad.

- Comment on Drugmakers Are Set to Pay 23andMe Millions to Access Consumer DNA 1 year ago:
As long as it’s for research and stays HIPPA compliant I don’t really have an issue with it. This would be a good use for AI but that’s also kinda horrifying to think about. Having millions of unique human DNA samples to train your AI on would be worth something I presume.
