The accepted definition of genocide isn’t what you think it is. It isn’t what I thought it was either, until I educated myself.
I can’t see any way to argue that blocking food to a large population of civilians is NOT genocidal. It doesn’t require active military action to meet agreed UN criteria:
www.un.org/en/genocide-prevention/definition
Article II
In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
Killing members of the group; Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

The question doesn’t relate to making /c/meta private, but enabling the “private instance” feature added in 0.19.11. Content is still federated, but users/bots browsing to aussie.zone will be presented with no content until they log in.
And yes, much of the value of /c/meta is for non AZ users, I have no intention of making it private.

Fuck them. Variety of thought is why I’m here. The tankies suck, but I think of them as a palate cleanser after the right wing crap in mainstream media.

You’re conflating “Lemmy” with the behavior of a single instance. This is actually the strength of a federated platform; don’t like how an instance or community is operating? start your own or move to one more to your way of thinking.
