an omelett, but the eggs haven’t been stirred
I find this incredibly funny, still laughing, yet I’m not sure why
- Comment on Microsoft CEO's pay rises 63% to $79m, despite devastating year for layoffs: 2550 jobs lost in 2024 3 weeks ago:
his payrise is equivalent to something like 3000 US workers minimum wage annual salaries
if my math is correct (which it probably isn’t)
- Comment on YSK about JShelter, a browser extension that attempts to protect you from being fingerprinted online. 3 weeks ago:
It breaks Cloudflare so for me tons of websites becomes inaccessible. Maybe you can tweak it but OOTB it’s unusable

- Comment on House Centipedes 4 weeks ago:
I think I’ve figured out why I don’t mind them.
They’re really skittish and will run away when I’m around, and tend to stay on the walls. Chances are you won’t ever touch them by accident.
So I’m fine sharing the house.
Also I never seen more than one at a time. It hardly feels like an invasion

Lenovo Explorer. I don’t play VR games really, but it’s fun when my little nephews visit (the A770 handles simple games like Beat Saber well). Outer Wilds in VR seemed like a good time to dust of the headset but it’s a bit too stuttery. I didn’t look for any type of fix or optimization though.
But if you’re serious about VR gaming Intel Arc is not a good idea for now. However on /r/intelarc some report good results, saying it varies from game to game.

I’m testing it in VR, the modder did an amazing job. Unfortunately my GPU absolutely blows with VR games (Intel Arc A770)
- Comment on Bing has been revamped to prioritize AI search results – whether you like it or not 3 months ago:
I like how Kagi does it.
You can have it appear only when ending the search terms with a question mark - Comment on North Korean hacker got hired by US security vendor, immediately loaded malware 3 months ago:
Even though the photo provided to HR was fake, the person who was interviewed for the job apparently looked enough like it to pass.
why not send an actual picture of his face?
- Comment on Traveling this summer? Maybe don’t let the airport scan your face. 3 months ago:
For international flights, US citizens can opt out but foreign nationals have to participate in face scanning, [with some exceptions]
I had no idea we were already at that point.
always wanted to visit the US. I guess that won’t happen then.
I refuse to participate in this dystopia. But I’m a little worried this will make me a recluse

I just read the article and I don’t see how it’s misleading. Google introduced a five seconds delay before video starts for adblock users

I’m having a hard time figuring it out also. An article says in 2018 they had 20B pages indexed… but they didn’t use them?
People won’t understand the difference between meta search engine and real one most likely. But if they did, i believe some would choose the “60% independent”, the same way they choose a “60% recycled material”

Qwant has web crawlers. It started with indexing the German and French web, and the plan was to progressively rely less on Bing
Since the search engine is a failure I suppose they didn’t develop it further.
- Comment on I want to self host. But I want it to be low effort. How should I go about it? 1 year ago:
I’ve used Yunohost for years on a cheap VPS. It’s easy to install, does most of the work for you, and low maintenance.
Issues sometimes occur with major updates, but often easy to fix, and users in the forum are willing to help.
Every program in your list is available.
I highly recommend it.
