The most immature billionaire. Scary.
- Comment on AI Is Starting to Look Like the Dot Com Bubble 1 year ago:
It certainly is somewhere around the peak of the hype cycle.
- Comment on Intel 'Downfall': Severe flaw in billions of CPUs leaks passwords and much more 1 year ago:
It appears that users in this case include agents such as software. A bit confusing for the general public.
It can theoretically even be exploited via a browser:
[Q] What about web browsers?
[A] In theory, remotely exploiting this vulnerability from the web browser is possible. In practice, demonstrating successful attacks via web browsers requires additional research and engineering efforts.
- Comment on Microsoft shuts down Cortana app on Windows 11 1 year ago:
A “sassy personality” just puts the assistant into the uncanny valley for me. I prefer it to just do its job and not try to fool me into anthropomorphizing it.

Related article about language and color.
- Comment on The U.S. Government Wants To Control Online Speech to “Protect Kids” 1 year ago:
Perhaps politicians should concentrate on making it so there’s less depressing stuff in the world for anyone to see and hear, and not creating more of it with things like this rubbish bill. 🤷♀️
- Comment on Good Old Windows 1 year ago:
There’s no reason for Microsoft to do that. That will just alienate existing Windows users to try other OSes while providing no benefit whatsoever to the corporation. Even Apple, which is known for its love of walled gardens, allows executing unsigned code in MacOS. So I very much doubt we’ll get a source.

Source?

Isn’t the software supposed to correct for such false input in most cases?
- Comment on Lemmy is popular nowadays, yet is losing its active users 1 year ago:
Me too. What’s your reason not to post? I don’t post much because I’m anxious about the possible low quality of my contributions.
- Comment on OpenAI just admitted it can't identify AI-generated text. That's bad for the internet and it could be really bad for AI models. 1 year ago:
I wonder if it was too many false positives, like when some tool said the US Constitution was written by AI. Which seems quite logical considering that LLMs imitate humans very closely and cannot by themselves prevent hallucinations which is the best predictor of whether it was written by a person in good faith or not.

Thank you for such a detailed and instructive answer!

What’s the point of alternative DNS roots? Can they be a thing to mitigate DNS related failures (though lemmy.ml is back online, so I guess that wasn’t it)?
- Comment on I feel like Fediverse users are nicer to each other and more generous with upvotes than reddit. 1 year ago:
I think the exodus from Reddit is also a factor here. People are united in a cause of finding a new home.

I hope the haters won’t succeed at discouraging you and thank you for your effort to help our place grow! I’m a bit shy to post too because I don’t want to get those kind of comments, but so far it’s been a positive experience.
- Comment on is it just me or GitHub is turning into some sort of LinkedIn 1 year ago:
Doesn’t Codeberg say it’s mostly for FOSS? They say private repos are only allowed for really small things like note keeping, so it wouldn’t be right to just move everything there from GitHub.
- Comment on 1 year ago:
Oh, I was going to ask why does it need access to everything and not just email, and that’s why.
- Comment on 1 year ago:
Perhaps the restriction to always have an image is the main point. Threads also seem like just Instagram without the photos.

Oh, I loved Transmetropolitan, and this one looks cool too, thank you for the recommendation.
