- Comment on 'Your Turn': United Auto Workers Launches Campaign to Unionize Tesla 11 months ago:
Repealing that act should be one of the largest priorities of leftists in the United States. I wish people talked about it more.
- Comment on Average Lemmy Active Users by Month 11 months ago:
It’s based on posts and comments.

I’m glad to hear it, this will make the mobile version much more usable.

I have Photon running at the same subdomain level as my main UI, but it’s easy enough to host both.
- Comment on Lemmy active users down, comments steady and posts up 1 year ago:
Unfortunately, the software for both running and displaying Lemmy is still in beta. While it’s still in active development, it’s probably for the best that we stay niche because bugs and stability issues turn off a lot of people permanently from the platform. That’s why I’m waiting until the Lemmy 1.0 release to really advertise, I don’t think we’re ready for that kind of growth yet.

Seems to. It federated to me at least, so it looks like it was saved correctly.
- Comment on Mastodon actually has 407K+ more monthly users than it thought 1 year ago:
That's a really cool script. Does it work for posts/comments that haven't federated to your instance yet?
- Comment on Unity CEO John Riccitiello is retiring, effective immediately 1 year ago:
I also hope that they continue to be able to use that tool, but at this point, it's clear to me that it would be wise to start learning new tools. For me, it's not just that the company has made a mistake, but that the mistake was a repeat of a mistake they made back in 2019, which indicates that they may well do it again.
- Comment on Windows 12 May Require a Subscription 1 year ago:
Here's a Reddit post with some people talking about Linux distros if you want to see some additional opinions: link. Manjaro with KDE is a good option as well I'd like to add, my personal recommendation is to install a Linux partition separate from Windows and ease into it, if you enjoy the experience you'll find yourself using the Windows partition less and less until you are able to finally delete it.
- Comment on Windows 12 May Require a Subscription 1 year ago:
Indeed, the process has really been streamlined. The configs and additional stuff from the olden days still exist, but they're configured really well by default and someone would only ever need to touch them to try and eke out as much performance as possible.
- Comment on Is there something like F-droid, but for windows software? 1 year ago:
Not really, but it would still be more helpful to explain how it's better.
- Comment on We should rename Solar to Patriot Power to make it palatable to the right 1 year ago:
The people on the top have a variety of internal justifications for what they're doing. Some say that the world is "dog eat dog" and that they are the only ones looking out for themselves. Others say that what they're doing is for some grander good that will come once they acquire enough wealth and power. Some are deluded enough they have convinced themselves they are telling the truth. That and many more justifications fly through the heads of the ultra-wealthy and powerful as they continue spreading misinformation and enriching themselves.
- Comment on Desalination system could produce freshwater that is cheaper than tap water 1 year ago:
You're correct to an extent, but water is still a very useful source of minerals. Potassium, calcium, magnesium, and fluoride are all minerals and salts that we primarily get from water, and thus distilled water can cause a person to become deficient in these elements (Source).
- Comment on The EU says X is the worst platform for disinformation | Just as it removes a way to report election misinformation 1 year ago:
This is completely unsurprising. Under the new "free speech" regime, X has been completely deluged with antisemitic, pro-Russia, and anti-democracy propaganda. It's no wonder that advertisers don't want to be associated with that type of content.
- Comment on Desalination system could produce freshwater that is cheaper than tap water 1 year ago:
You're correct about readding a small amount of salts and minerals, but you may not actually need to boil it. Often the membranes used for distillation have pores that are so small that only individual atoms can go through them, which effectively filters out bacteria and virions.
- Comment on Unity May Never Win Back the Developers It Lost in Its Fee Debacle 1 year ago:
This is completely unsurprising. Often when a company goes to shit it’s the board of directors, ultimately, they control the CEO and the rest of the executive team at a company. I feel horribly for the indie devs that were using Unity, though there’s always a chance for this to happen to proprietary software it still sucks when it does happen.
- Comment on Unity May Never Win Back the Developers It Lost in Its Fee Debacle 1 year ago:
The quoting in Lemmy is block quotes, so it appears you’d have to quote each paragraph individually. Definitely inconvenient, I wonder if there’s a way they could rework the system.
- Comment on Unity May Never Win Back the Developers It Lost in Its Fee Debacle 1 year ago:
For the best. Companies need to learn to tread carefully when dealing with customers, they can’t be allowed to get off lightly for trying anti-consumer practices like this.
- Comment on Apple removes app created by Andrew Tate 1 year ago:
Indeed. Affiliate marketing is another term for multi-level marketing, which itself offers a thin veneer of legitimacy to a more typical pyramid scheme.
- Comment on Spotify is going to clone podcasters’ voices — and translate them to other languages 1 year ago:
Perhaps that could be resolved by a disclaimer. Something like, “The following lyrics were generated by an AI and thus may be mistranslated.” It wouldn’t be perfect, but it might help.
- Comment on What do you think of framework and their methods? 1 year ago:
These laptops look extremely affordable and I like how modular they are. The next time I need to replace my laptop I’ll probably go with Framework.

It’s really neat to see something like this still going. Torrenting is a cool technology, it’s fun to download and then seed a file, knowing that now other people will get to enjoy it.

I liked that my LG phone had a back made of metal. I don’t like that phones are entirely glass now, it makes them feel delicate and fragile and they get covered with fingerprints immediately.

- Comment on Amazon To Start Running Ads In Prime Video Series & Movies, Will Launch Ad-Free Tier For Extra Fee 1 year ago:
Indeed, but no one knows what that number is. Corporations are currently of the mindset of “that will happen in the distant future, so we can keep going.” Of course, eventually, that distant future will become the present and things will collapse, but they’ll keep saying it’s in the future until then.

Pirating people is generally considered immoral.
- Comment on Bluesky sees record signups day after Musk says X will go paid-only 1 year ago:
Mastadon (and the Fediverse in general, to some extent) has problems with discoverability and the average user finds federation confusing. People tend to either use microblogging to see what’s going on with people they’re interested in or to broadcast their activities to a large group of people, and Mastadon currently doesn’t fit that niche very well.

The amount of E-Waste our society generates is truly abhorrent. It will take hundreds of thousands of hours and countless amounts of money for future generations to fix this.
