- Comment on Why are stories that take place in another world where everyone is white and Asian are normal, but it's "woke" if they are all black? 3 months ago:
(East) Asians are the most accepted race aside from white people. Not that racism against them doesn’t exist, but it seems that white people naturally gravitate towards them compared to other races

If the content includes the Disney Vault that’d be very cool
- Comment on Google’s carbon emissions soar by 48% due to AI 4 months ago:
The AI hype (talk to your toaster!) will blow over, useful AI will remain and improve, this is just a hurdle along the way.
I hope so. AI spam causing too much internet noise to the point where we can’t tell which one’s true or not would be one big hurdle.

Try connecting with academics. Just met an artist who’s a professor at a university and even though I’m not of the same educational level as her, we had a very nice chat.

I didn’t know that was a thing. I do know that many Indians talk about using WhatsApp though (similar to the Indonesians here)

- Comment on This smiling robot face made of living skin is absolute nightmare fuel 4 months ago:
This was mentioned in the Discussion part of their paper:
The activity of facial muscles involved in forming expressions such as smiles is closely linked to the development of wrinkles. One significant next step in this research is to leverage this model to enhance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying wrinkle formation. Moreover, applying this knowledge to recreate such expressions on a chip could find applications in the cosmetics industry and the orthopedic surgery industry. Additionally, this study performed actuation on a dermis equivalent by controlling mechanical actuators positioned beneath the dermis equivalent. Substituting this mechanical actuator with cultured muscle tissue presents an intriguing prospect in the realization of a higher degree of biomimetics. Examining the correlation between facial muscle contractions and resulting facial expression can offer insights into the physiological aspects of emotion, leading to new exploration in the treatment of diseases, such as facial paralysis surgery.

This is true in the art industry as well. Many outsourced artists from third world countries are exploited with unreasonable wages and long hours
- Comment on Neo-Nazis Are All-In on AI 4 months ago:
I think that would be online spaces in general where anything that goes against the grain gets shooed away by the zeitgeist of the specific space. I wish there were more places where we can all put criticism into account, generative AI included. Even r/aiwars, where it’s supposed to be a place for discussion about both the good and bad of AI, can come across as incredibly one-sided at times.
- Comment on Neo-Nazis Are All-In on AI 4 months ago:
You are right. But I’m mostly observing how much of the newsfeed headlines talk about how AI is dangerous and dystopian (which can be to some degree, but the amount of fear-mongering headlines outnumber its benefits. Then again many news outlets benefit from such headlines anyway regardless of topic), and this one puts the cherry on top.
- Comment on Neo-Nazis Are All-In on AI 4 months ago:
Is this just some media manipulation to give a bad name on AI by connecting them with Nazis despite that it’s not just them benefiting from AI?

- Comment on TikTok wants to be YouTube now, tests 60-minute video uploads 5 months ago:
Not to mention that it’s hard to intuitively watch longterm videos on TikTok. Once you swipe a video, it’s gone, unless you save it on favorites, and it’s not easy to get back to the video, either. At least on YouTube, it’s easier to go back to the paused video from the homepage.

- Comment on Mercedes is trialing humanoid robots for ‘low skill, repetitive’ tasks 7 months ago:
This really sucks for many disabled people who rely on ‘low skill, repetitive’ jobs to survive. I hope Mercedes addresses this (I doubt, given how capitalists hate disabled people).
- Comment on I created an app where you can share your thoughts fully anonymously and vote for the weekly "Thought of Humanity" 9 months ago:
Interesting concept for sure. And the collective report system may even tell the morality of the overall userbase. For example, a right-leaning comment may get mass-reported, but the same can apply with left-leaning comments, depending on the demographic of the platform’s users.
- Comment on Nightshade, the free tool that ‘poisons’ AI models, is now available for artists to use 9 months ago:
Apparently people who specialize in AI/ML have a very hard time trying to replicate the desired results when training models with ‘poisoned’ data. Is that true?
- Comment on Content is King? - How it sucked out the joy of personal websites 9 months ago:
Same here. At this point I’ve effectively become an internet ‘hermit’ and avoid social media. Sometimes I’d even avoid Youtube because of how overstimulating the content are. I don’t know how useful this will be for my wellbeing though, since I don’t even ‘touch grass’ either. And yes, I’m autistic so the current state of the web is borderline intolerable for me.
- Comment on Google DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman warns AI is a ‘fundamentally labor replacing’ tool over the long term 9 months ago:
This is the most realistic outcome imo. Even before AI there’s already a pattern where employees jump through companies before they gather enough experience to make their own.
- Comment on Why We Need An Anti-AI Movement Too 1 year ago:
I get what anti-AI people are trying to say: job replacements and accelerating corporate interests are big concerns that should be addressed at a systemic level. But honestly, just give me a solution where, I as an autistic person can talk to someone about things that no one else wants to talk about, and can help me solve my problems, and is available (especially emotionally) 24/7. If you can’t do that, just let me be with my AI.

So that must be my the cover making my iPhone hard to reach, gotcha. Though I suppose I wouldn’t expect to use a cover as thick if I use the fold
- Comment on So long, small phones 1 year ago:
I remember the last time this got brought up and I complained about my thumb not being able to reach the other side of the iphone 3 mini. Well, I tried the Samsung Z Fold the other day and I really like how narrow it is to the point where my thumb can effortly reach the other side when the phone is folded. Perhaps I’ll get that phone in the future when my current iPhone 13 mini dies. At the same time, I do enjoy my Apple Watch though and I appreciate the longetivity of the iPhone compared to other brands.

Good point. I guess this aspect is much different from the AI Art scene, where the producers of the dataset are usually not compensated for their drawings.
