True Color: The Strange and Spectacular Quest to Define Color—from Azure to Zinc Pink by Kory Stamper is a colorful history of the third edition of Webster’s Third New International Dictionary from the perspective of an editor from a later edition. While going through various definitions, Stamper came across some ridiculous sounding definitions for colors. How did they come to be in the dictionary and why do they have the definitions that they do?
