I get the impression that Sakura has never killed anyone before and she’s actually afraid of doing so, which is interesting given her position as a guard

To be fair, she just recently started to be a proper guard. Still no matter the circumstances fighting to death is always mentally heavy, no matter if you’re a guard, a special unit or a soldier.
