hello. can you pls tell me what the highlighted numbers mean?
i used to assume they indicated new/unread posts in the associated #circles, but the observed behaviour does not support that interpretation. regardless of how many times i view said circles, or reload the page when at said circles, those numbers do not go away at that time. eventually they do either stop, or change value, but again bearing no correlation that i can understand to the actual circles' posts status.
if they are indeed supposed to indicate unread posts then afaict the function is broken -- can i disable it in Settings?

These are indeed unread posts. However, it can sometimes happen that messages remain in this status even though they have already been read.
You can manually set the status to "read" for all messages, which will correct the display.
Click the pencil icon once, then click a circle, and then click the "eye." This sets the status of the messages for that circle to read.
@raroun thanks! gosh, it's a bit of a roundabout way to do it, but now i know the magic secret for next times, ha!
