This is really something
The artstyle is unique, with sort of rough, sketchy lineart done in very bold strokes. I think it might just work very well, since that’s sort of the way the story’s playing out too. The characters are a bit stylized and the situations are sort of just quickly introduced - like you’re dropped right in the middle of little bits and pieces of this necessarily huge and sprawling story - but it very definitely doesn’t pull its emotional punches.
I’m kind of curious to see what they’re going to do. They’re drawing parallels to Romance of the Three Kingdoms, but is that just the coincidence that we have a highly skilled and educated tactician who’s set out to reunify three kingdoms, or is he actually going to be a Liu Bei expy? I guess we’ll find out next episode, when we see if he meets a Guan Yu and a Zhang Fei.
In any event, it definitely has my attention.
