I am trying to find a transcript, but this podcast is a great discussion by geologists on how they tackle identifying a rock, it seems pretty simple but in practice it is really nice to hear experts talk about their approach to what laymen assume is an easy to answer task of simply identifying the correct category with close inspection, context is always a part of it!
