These include footage filmed last month in Egypt and a clip that claims to show Hamas missile attacks on Israel but is actually from a video game.

In before someone starts circulating the Independence Day Movie clip of the White House getting blown up by aliens on X as if it were real news that actually happened and start blaming some specific group for it.

Does the EU have any jurisdiction? Elon doesn’t seem to care about this at all. I have a feeling there’s nothing they can do to him/Twitter. If they have no offices, servers, operations, bank accounts, etc. In the EU, there’s nothing they can do. They can fine him all they want.

  If Twitter is doing business and earning money in the European Union, then it has to abide by national law - just like any other business operating in the EU.
  
  In a scenario where Twitter doesn’t comply with the law, the European Union can fine Twitter, appropriate earnings from the European market, sue in the United States or income bilateral agreements, file for extradition, or shut down Twitter in the EU via IP ban and having the app removed from the various national app stores. Google and Apple will comply for their app stores, and European providers will comply regarding an IP ban. Some people might still be able to figure out how to access Twitter via sideloading and VPN, bit it would effectively destroy Twitter’s business in the European Union.

EU officials confirmed to TechCrunch that an investigation has not been taken at this point. Clearly, though, yesterday’s development (and the pace at which regulators are moving) is a strong indication of the bloc’s direction of travel.

This report was substantially revised to clarify a number of aspects, including — most saliently — that the EU has sent a formal request for information to X at this point. This could prefigure a formal announcement of an investigation but is not, yet, that formal technical step. We also clarified the scale of financial penalties possible under the DSA if a breach is confirmed; and added details of the regulation’s crisis response mechanism. We also fixed an error in the original report which referred to Interpol, rather than Europol.
