It’s not like the mine closing is happening overnight, what have they done to build aternative employment in the meantime? I believe the mine has been a point of contention for decades, those who wanted it gone should have been also working on a plan for what happens afterwards to keep the town alive.

I do think towns shouldn’t be propped up by the government if there’s no industry there.

Take Daily River and its surrounding communities,

No industry no jobs all government supported and their favourite past time is driving 300km into Darwin stealing cars and driving them back every night
