  As Washington unsettles its partners, Beijing is reaping diplomatic gains, without backing down on human rights, trade or security.

  US always had worse human rights record than China. So if it wasn’t an issue for countries before it shouldn’t be now.

  EU, UK and Canada haven’t really removed tarrifs on China, everything so far has been very targeted. Not sure I would call that a win for China on their terms.

  Only NYT would see security as something a soveregn country would have to back down on.
