My parents promised to get me a new laptop for university when I graduate. With ram and gpu prices going bonkers, I feel a sense of urgency as I won’t be able to get the computer I want when it’s tine.
They think it might affect my studies and school performance overall; while I get their worries, in the end it might financially hurt my family.
I’ve thought of a comprise to get the computer but keep it in it’s box until graduation. Didn’t offered that yet as I don’t know if I can keep the urge to open the box install linux, tinker around with it.
So, should I urge them to buy it, or wait until graduation?

You can always try second hand market if in your region is somewhat healthy. I am not entirely sure what is your use case, but for work related and studies I would advise to get a lenovo thinkpad of some kind. Durable machines overral and can be get for decent prices. Other enterprise level laptops also work
