There's a difference between making your coworkers sword fight and having a nice hologram of a person. In datas case it would be like having a picture of her. And no one would complain about having a pic of someone like that.

I’m pretty sure that’s the joke. After all, it isn’t like Data understands emotions at this point. I can totally see him going to Geordi or Picard and asking if it is wrong of him to still have that holo of Tasha if everyone is freaking out about Barclay’s program.

In the future they invent perfect VR and encourage people to use it to fulfill their every fantasy, yet somehow creating simulations where you get to see the likenesses of people you know IRL is crossing a line?
